NO LANDS!?!?!?

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Instants (8)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Yeah that's right, there are no lands in this deck whatsoever. Those people who say "There's only 9 lands in my deck, neh" well you can screw that in the ass because I'm crazy enough to go with a deck with ABSOLUTELY NO LANDS!! HA!!

All the rest is explained in the "How to Play" Section. Thank you!

How to Play

So how does this deck play without lands you may ask? The only other option that's not Vintage or Legacy: Mox Opal. Seriously, this is now like $37. How the hell did it go up so fast? Anyway to the Point: Mox Opal is the key card that starts everything up. Getting that and 2 more artifacts that cost 0 to play will give you 1 mana of any color, which lets you play a ramper, which then on turn 2 it will give you more mana from more rampers, and so on.

The deck requires a lot of setup and luck, mostly on turn 6. But hey, that's good for a deck with no lands, and it would have to set up an entirely different way. It was a really fun deck to make and it turns out somewhat decent.

Now Believe it or Not, this deck has a win condition (*GASP*). It's playing creatures somewhat fast, then power them up with battle cry (specifically Ornithopter / other Signal Pests) and then beat down the opponent with creatures with Battle Cry power. it's decent, It CAN get somewhat of an aggro lead, or better, if done right.

Originally, there was a Frontline Medic in here to help with creatures not getting destroyed by combat. Reasons it was taken out was because *a. a little too expensive, *b. opponent might find a way around it and *c. I don't know, seems strange.

Well I hope you like the deck, or at least my attempt!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SUGGESTIONS: I'll put down good cards that will go in the next "NO LANDS!?!?!?" Deck that people in the comments have brought up.
Deck discussion for NO LANDS!?!?!?
I'm tempted to build my own version of this deck now. Good on you for showing those who have little lands up!
Yeah, might as well make a deck with one of the most craziest ways to build one and one that no one thought of. XD
You have to be extremely lucky to make this deck run properly. Like the idea, but seems so risky.
Well yeah, but it's worth it to actually WIN without the help of lands. I still call that an accomplishment.
Love the idea of the no land deck been tempted to make a deck with no lands, have a copple of cards i can recomend for mana.
Elvish Spirit Guide , Simian Spirit Guide , Chrome mox.
Perhaps thoughtcast to draw a bit more
0
Permalink
Wel lets see: Chrome Mox is banned in Modern (otherwise, this would be a Vintage / Legacy deck), Elvish Spirit Guide is also not Modern, and Simian Spirit Guide can actually be quite useful for 1 mana-costing artifacts. Thanks!
This is a Modern deck BTW
Oh yeah, and thoughtcast: It is legal in modern and can keep my draw up. Good!
All you really need for this is a set of 60 sleves and a printer. If you go to the link marked: Proxy this deck
you can try out the deck and you don't have to go out and buy all of the cards. Although, if you want to start playing it in tournaments, start saving now. Proxying a deck is a good way to try a deck without the waste of hundreds of dollars if you don't like it.
I know you can just proxy, i just don't like to proxy when i know i am not going to buy the cards. I hate when my friends came up to play with some OP proxy decks that they didn't even made and have no intention of buying the cards. Because they just want to win and not have fun. But i have to say this is not an OP deck and it is a fun deck, maybe i will proxy, will see.
I hear you there, various people I've played have a decent deck that's hard to beat, proxy half of it and stop using it the next week! I mean come on, people, play the entire deck or go home! But, point there aside, I'm proxying some of my own decks to see if they properly work before I buy some of the cards because a lot of them have $5+ cards, and I don't have that kind of money
0
Etna is right, this deck could be better with lands, but the fact that you're running none is the fun part! :D
well then again s0rinmark0v, I tend to do the same thing with some of my decks. Can't blame me, I just want to try everything.
Seems a tad optimistic.
If you're building a modern-legal deck that is supposed to be decent and not have any lands, why not make it a storm deck? I feel that would best loan itself to this style of play, I don't know why you feel the need to go G/W.
Go mono-R or r/b,
manamorphose, Gitaxian, Pyretic, Desperate R, Simian Spirit Guide, Grapeshot, Street Wraith...
I don't know, that'd probably be just as unreliable. Really hard to run something landless in a modern environment.
Anyway, consider adding:
Serum Powder
Street Wraith
Gitaxian Probe
Manamorphose
Mishra's Bauble
Which will allow you decrease the number of filler cards you have by quite a bit.
If i am not mistaken Desperate Ritual is banned in modern.
0
No.... It was reprinted in Modern Masters...
Rite of Flame, however, IS banned in Modern
0
Permalink
I DON'T believe that because something is reprinted in Modern Masters, makes it legal. It's like saying that Rakdos Cackler is illegal in standard but when they brought out the promotional one, it's legal again all of a sudden. To me Modern Masters is just a really expensive promotion of old cards
0
Permalink
However, they may have changed the legality in that time.....
0
It is not banned anymore.
https://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Resources.aspx?x=judge/resources/sfrmodern
They changed not to long ago, i remember going on the list and seeing Despaired Ritual and Pyretic Ritual.
(not sure about Pyretic Ritual but despaired ritual was still in the list when they changed the legendary and Planeswalker rules)
Everything printed in Modern Masters is Modern-Legal. It was a set designed to re-release older, modern-popular cards to the circulation, as well as provide a draftable format for modern players.
On that note, MM is an exception. Just because something is printed in a promo deck/release (ie, commander, dual decks, Premium Decks, FTV) DOES NOT make it legal in a new format (ie standard). Modern Masters is the exception because it is designed to be a modern-draftable format. It isn't 'making things legal again' it is just a reprint of things that are legal in the format. Huge difference.
Pyretic Ritual, Desperate Ritual = legal in Modern
Rite of flame, Seething Song = banned in modern
Storm doesn't seem that bad when played right now that you think of it. I would try that, but I don't know what to combo it with really. But it is a very nice idea!
0
Serum Powder can be nice in case I get a bad hand, which will happen a lot.
Street Wraith isn't bad for filler.
Probe is also good filler.
I've tried Manamorphose once, but I think having to cast it costs 2 mana, it'll be a little hard.
Mishra's Bauble isn't.....bad? I really don't know about that one.
Thanks for the suggestions!
how bout, instead of another "no lands" deck, why not an "all lands" deck?
Just a personal recommendation... -4x Hero of Bladehold.
Replace it with 4x Springleaf Drum
Also, with Memnite and Ornithopter, Glint Hawk is pretty baller.
Ooooh, Glint Hawk does sound nice, and it's legal in modern!
Springleaf Drum is also quite useful. Thanks!
i'd suggest elvish spirit guide and/or chrome mox
0
Neither of which is legal in modern.
0
Posted 23 August 2013 at 02:14
since you have no lands and plan on being able to get to 4 mana... goblin charbelcher could be a great winning condition
and btw when mox opal was printed it was selling for 50$ so the fact that it came down to 37 is actually not that bad...
0
Posted 23 August 2013 at 04:47
Oh, god......but question. Don't you lose if you reveal no lands? Isn't that milling yourself? IDK.
OK, that kind of answers my Mox Opal question.
according to the discussion about it on gatherer saith17 says this :
And according to level 4 judge Rune Horvik (as can be seen at
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp ily/rh92):
If you don't have any lands in your library you reveal all the cards
left in the library, then the Charbelcher deals 1 damage for each
revealed card.
Even if one part of an effect fails, the other parts will try to do as
much as possible. Revealing the land is just a stop condition, it's not
a requirement to deal damage (it doesn't say "if you reveal a land..." ).
One problem with these decks are spells like Damnation, Day of Judgment etc.. I played against my friend who has really fast elf deck, most of the mana came from elfs and he had less than 10 lands. At the beginning he made some damage and got shitload of elfs on table. I just sat there and waited a couple of rounds, got some defence and then boom.. All creatures dead and half of his manapool. Then I played Elixir of Immortality and basically started over with plenty of mana.
0
Posted 23 August 2013 at 12:58
Permalink
All decks seem to have that problem. In some form or another
The only thing that can happen is either counter it, make your creatures indestructable, give them protection from a colour and/or suck it up, and move on
0
Posted 23 August 2013 at 13:01
Permalink
Yeah of course it's like that. I was just thinking that with this setup, cards like Damnation etc could be really devastating and pretty much just ruin your game. It might be good to have a way around them, maybe in side or something.
0
Oh, tell your friend to put 4x Winter Orbs into his Elf deck. One of those placed at the right moment is clutch.
0
then maybe Elixir of Immortality would be some use, unless thats too........neh.
The Reason Mox Opals price jumped 17$ to 37$ is because the legendary rule changed making it much more playable in several decks.
