Deck discussion for Standard Defender Mill

Nice! You should put some Dimir charms in sideboard and maybe add pilfered plans to it too. It seems bad at first, but drawing two cards and milling them two(more of a bonus) is just a specialized divination

Agreed on pilfered plans, except MB not side. This deck is almost entirely revolved around Phenax. Which means if you dont draw him you lose. So there needs to be some way to get him quicker. Sure there are technically other win cons, but none of them are reliable or they require a combo. Phenax aside I used to play with a very similar deck and looking back card draw is what I lacked

Agree about the card draw, maybe take out few of the those Colossus of Akros since I doubt your going to need more than two and put some Pilfered Plans or Read the Bones in there. I might be retard but if you're in a hurry to get Phenax out, you can also use Dimir Charm on yourself :)

Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker would fit nicely there. You could take out 2x Phenax for them, since he is legendary, drawing more than one would be bad.
Also, Mind Sculpt, Tome Scour and Breaking // Entering could provide some very mana efficient milling.

Mind sculpt has rotated out of standard.sadly.

I disagree with Mirko Vosk, if anything do a one of. He's really just a bonus mill, whereas Phenax is the win con. Mill without Phenax doesnt work that well. With Phenax can decimate.

Nice deck but i would swap the Duskmantle Guildmages for the Psychic Strikes

Id agree with canning the Guildmage. If you get to the point where you can actually use their good ability youve already won via mill anyhow. I however would get 2 Jace, Memory Adept in that spot and 2 of something else.

The guildmages are good though for mana curve and psychic strike is in sideboard. Also, 20 cards-20 life isn't the entire opponents deck, and most generally once Phenax and the guildmage is out, there should be about three to four other walls out, which would be about 20 milled cards and life lost. The deck is mostly good as is.

Idk, I mean if you just add Triton tactics though... Phenax + WoF = 40 mill, so I just feel like its simply reducing your chances to effectively mill.

Consuming Aberration is a great alternate win-con. So I'd add 2 Rogue's Passage into the land base
That way when Consuming Aberration is OP, you can win in 1 attack!

I'd run Jace, Memory Adept. It can end up being really hard to win if say Phenax gets Slaughter Games'd

Well, not necessarily. Door keeper can keep milling them slowly, or with as many walls as there is, you could wait until you monstrosity colossus and beat them to death. Definitely some sideboard removal, like Dimir charm, Doom blade, or maybe some more counterspells to be more well-rounded.

Needs counter/removal
Almost screwed if you don't

I second this, and add the mill jace. Drop the guardians and phantoms also maybe one of the guild mages, one of the aberrations and one of the colossus. That would be eleven spots two for Jace then counter and removal with the oth other nine. Almost forgot breaking // entering.

But the phantasm is key for stopping early game creatures, like rakdos cackler, Frostburn weird, kalonian tusker, heroic creatures(to a point), ash zealot, boros elite, fanatic of xenagos, fleecemane lion, and basically every other one and two drop creature, precisely when you need it. It also supports a healthy mana curve

Jace memory adept for extra back up plan?
Triton tactics also seems very good in this deck

Very cool build! I love the idea. A few Jace Memory Adept wouldn't be a bad idea.
