Deck Description

Tribal Soldier token deck - 60

Built around amassing soldier tokens, making them stronger, giving them first strike, and getting enough creatures to overwhelm opponents.

20130113 - Updated deck based on comments below.

Always looking for ideas for improvement.

How to Play

I like to build up as many tokens as possible, use martial coup to board wipe if I need to and then cast Nomad's Assembly to double my forces and overwhelm my opponents with soldiers.

Deck discussion for Soldiers Muster

I have a deck very similar to this. Personally I would add one or two Odric, Master Tacticians so that once you have your numbers up you can attack your oponent directly or if you choose, whipe his field by making his or her lower power creature block your higher power creatures. You could also throw in a few Crusaders of Odric.

Odric would be a great addition, I will need to take a look at one or two to add in and see what I can pull out for them. I have also run with a few Crusaders and am trying out the Benalish Commanders now instead, I may switch it up again if I need to though. Thanks!

Sweet deck man! Keep up the good work. The only problem I ran into was when I kept drawing sample hands, I always wounded up with one or less mana. Other than that it seems like this deck could be seriously competitive after a while. If you never give up on it and always improve it, this deck could be a serious force to be reckoned with on a professional level

Thanks, I've also found that mana is the one thing that can slow this deck down but I play in a pretty casual environment with friends so I'm usually able to mulligan a couple times and start with about three land.

This deck seems a bit unfocused, and I'd be a little dubious about Coat of Arms. I love soldiers, I had a deck like this one. But I removed all the token generation in favor of fewer, more powerful creatures with exalted and I really like how it plays. I made a pure soldier token deck list also. Maybe you could comment on them my decks and leave some constructive criticism.

Perhaps it seems unfocused because I'm trying to cram a lot in (tokens, pumping creatures, first strike, vigilance, flight)? I could try narrowing my focus a little and building up more of a side board to handle certain types of decks I suppose. I'm curious about why you are dubious about Coat of Arms as well. I know it is a little expensive on mana cost but I like it because with only 6 soldiers out they are all getting +5/+5 and it increases as I get more out. Of course it is likely to be a target of the first destroy artifact card that comes up so that may be a drawback. I went the token route with this deck because I started out with the Captain's Calls and Cathars' Crusade and have little to no exalted cards. I am interested in building an exalted deck eventually though and I'll take a look at yours to see what you did. Thanks for the input.

I have a similar deck that aims to pull out massive quantities of tokens and find that Cathars' Crusade is just amazing. If you have it out before you cast Martial Coup, it's pretty much game over. Captain's Call becomes a huge buff to all of your creatures, and don't even get me started on Captain of the Watch!

Also, I prefer Intangible Virtue to Phantom General - it's cheaper and vigilance on my tokens is quite scary. I know your captain gives vigilance, too, but she's a little expensive and having a power-up enchantment is really powerful against colors that have trouble with enchantments (red, black), which happen to be exactly the colors with great creature removal for slaying your lords. Plus, it survives Martial Coup!

Yes, it doesn't happen a lot but one of my favorite combos is to have Cathars' Crusade out, board wipe with Martial Coup, then play Nomad's Assembly on next turn. You make a good point about Intangible Virtue, I think I can find room in my deck for that card. Thanks.

I skimmed through the comments and didn't see anyone point out some of the redundancies in the list. Field Marshall grants all your soldiers first strike making swift justice and Zealous Strike pretty much useless. Phantom General seems very out of place. Its effect is less potent than the other 'lords' in the list (i.e. Captain of the Watch and Field Marshall).

In my opinion, Coat of Arms is outclassed by Door of Destinies simply because it doesn't afford your opponent any benefit. Zombies and Vampires are all the rage and it's not very wise to be giving your opponent's creatures a boost. Door of Destinies will also provide a boost even if you only have one soldier out.

Three cards I always include in my white weenie decks are Endless Horizons; Emeria, the Sky Ruin; and Brave the Elements. Endless Horizons gets rid of all the land in your deck meaning that your late game draws won't be wasted. Provided some of the plains actually hit the table, Endless Horizons sets up Emeria quite easily allowing you to start bringing back some of your fallen soldiers. Lastly, Brave the elements is incredibly useful. It will protect your creatures from spot removal, mass removal, and everything in between. It can potentially make all your creatures unblockable as well.

Cards that I put into white decks in general are Path to Exile, Spirit Mantle, and Mana Tithe. Path to Exile is a good card on its own merits. Same goes for Spirit Mantle. Mana Tithe is good because no one expects it.

Great analysis, Phantom General and Zealous Strike I am currently working on figuring out replacements for so they won't stay long. Swift Justice is also a holdover from before I put the Field Marshals in and I left in as more of a cheap way to gain some life if I happened to need it, those I can look at replacing too I suppose.

Thanks for the Coat of Arms opinion, I hadn't paid attention to the fact that it would help out my opponents as well, I will take a look at Door of Destinies and see what that does, perhaps that can be utilized as a replacement.

I am not familiar with most of these cards you mention and will definitely look at them to see how they might be implemented. Definitely agree with Spirit Mantle, love that card and use it heavily in my Spirit Deck.

Thanks for the analysis and thoughts!
