Main Deck (61 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

I played MTG many years ago and I recently got back into playing (only casual and with buddies, no tournaments at all)

I pulled out my old collection and bought enough new cards to upset my wife lol. Here is what I came up with for a strictly cheap plinker deck. I have not tried it yet, no idea how it will fair.

Deck discussion for Machine Gun Joe

I need to try it out, but I am thinking that I don't need that much mana and I could add a few more non-creature cards, maybe more counterspells or some direct damage (fireballs and such)

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Niv-Mizzet + Curiosity = Machine Gun
Elixir of Immortality = Reload Machine Gun
It's a combo my friend runs (minus the Elixir of Immortality).

There's another "Machine Gun" combo my friend runs, but it takes a little long to set up (Howling Mine + Teferi's Puzzle Box + Cerebral Vortex)

Some cards you can consider for Machine Gunning (what I remember from my friend's decks) are Gelectrode and Wee Dragonauts. He then uses draw and damage spells to activate their abilities.

Curiosity will turn your faster pingers into Niv. Theres a lot you can do with this. I would agree with the notion that you may have overdone it on the pingers. Upping you counter count will help quite a bit, if a larger creature hits the board, youll fall behind if you dont already have enough pingers on the board.

My Mind Over Matter deck could help you exploit the pingers further.

Hope these ideas help. Should you get a chance, please take a look at my Mind Over Matter deck ( http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=145831 ). If that doesn't suit your fancy, please see take a look at one of my ither builds by clicking my name to see the deck list.

I agree with the comments so far. 29 "ping" effects may be a bit much! :) You should definitely look to exploit these "pings' for their full potential. Curiosity is a great idea. It will lower the curve, which you should consider...you have an inordinate number of 3-drops, so look at some 1 and 2 CMC spells to replace some of the 3's. I would also consider adding a second Niv-Mizzet. You definitely don't want to over-do it on the legends, but you want to see him. In looking to maximize the creature effects I'd look at some of the equipment out there. Basilisk Collar and Grafted Exoskeleton come to mind. With Basilisk Collar you could kill any creature, regardless of toughness And with Grafted Exoskeleton you effectively cut your opponents life in half!
Good Luck! I love that you got back in after some time away. That was my story too, a few years ago, so I can relate. Have fun with it. And feel free to look at any of my decks for ideas, or just for a laugh! :)

All are great ideas. I will look into Curiosity and see if I have that one. I don't have another Niv or I would add another (I made this with stuff I happened to have had in my collection). Also, I hadn't even considered the fact that most things take 3 mana. I will remove a few plinkers and add some of the suggestions you guys have made here. Thanks for the feedback!

Good time to get back into the game - when return to ravnica comes out in a few months there will be a new niv mizzet for ya :)

That depends on if they reprint the current Niv-Mizzet or print him with new abilities, you never know what they'll do.

Either way he'll be back, so he'll return to the world of standard. Still a good time for it.

This is amazing! The mana base has to be improoved to make the deck much stabil... Use only 2 "Frostwielder" & put 2 in the sideboards, put the 2 "Counterspell" in the sides as well, than put in 2 more Elixir & 1 more Sigil... Put a 4th Sigil in the sides... I suggest using 2-3 Niv-Mizzet total... U could drop 1 or 2 of the simple blue 1/1-s... Charisma is unbelivable!.. this is a very simple combo, but hella' effective!

Here is a standard deck I'm still working on right now: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=340070

Hi Follower,

Help me celebrate my 150th deck by suggesting creatures to bring into the battlefield using mass polymorph.
