Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (5 cards)

Creatures (4)

Enchantments (1)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

A really fun and powerful life gain deck.

The side deck is just cards I am always considering to swap in but cant find a place in a 60 card deck.

With 4x Ajani's Pridemate, 4x Archangel of Thune and 4x Felidar Sovereign, your opponent will likely run out of removals, before you run out of win conditions.

It is expensive, but it is easy to drop the price while still being very powerful.
Swap 4x Serra Ascendant for 4x Martyr of Sands Save $30
Swap 4x Auriok Champion for 4x Suture Priest save $43
Swap 1x Felidar for 1x Serra Avatar Save $6
Swap 2x Archangel of Thune for 2x Wall of Reverence Save $26
That will make it a $60 deck while still being 92.4% as effective.

Deck discussion for ObamaCare (Modern)

I built this deck for fun. Let me know what you think.

I think the name doesnt make sense considering the life gain benefits. A true Obama Care deck would be unaffordable, provide no real benefit, and cause damage to the user!

Everyone is commenting on the name, which I love, but I wonder how many got it all the way, it's lifegain, but it's also Black and White

Well first of all, I want to say that I like the name (lol)

Second, I'm not sure how pridemate can be a win condition because it can be easily removed or doesn't even have trample. Eh, whatever. You have 2 more win conditions so it's fine.

You can try Cathedral Sanctifier because it's a 1-drop that let's you gain 3 life.

Yeah it might not be accurate to call Ajani's Pridemate or Serra Ascendant win conditions. But they do account for at least 50% of the wins I have gotten with this deck. Archangel of Thune and Felidar Sovereign usually count for the other 50%.

I like cathedral Sanctifier but it only gives you 3 life and I already have 12 one drop creatures. Soul Warden and Soul's Attendant can rack up much more than that for the same cost. I could add it in as additional one drop, but I am not sure what higher cost card I would swap out for it?

well since you're going to be accessing Felidar Sovereign later in the game, I think you can take out 1 or MAYBE 2 of him, or at least sideboard them in case your opponent has removal. Maybe the Rune-tail because protection won't really matter, especially because it's not your life that's getting protected. The choice is yours.

0
Posted 16 December 2013 at 22:59

Yeah I have been on the fence with Rune-Tail, the nice thing about it is he makes all my all my creatures able to block with out being destroyed. It can potentially keep me alive for a long time and protect alot of my life, but it is depends on what my opponent is playing.

Oh, well then in that case maybe ignore my last decision. But I still feel like the Felidar Soverign x 4 is a little overkill.

BTW, congrats! you made the hot page.

I swapped out 1 Felidar Soverign for 1 Divinity of Pride. I think it makes the deck more powerful. And you right one less Felidar Sovereign doesn't hurt the deck much.

You could consider Fiendslayer Paladin, has lifelink and has some good survival with his first strike and protection from red and black spells.

I think he would be a good sidedeck card. And swap him in only if I am playing a red or black deck.

I'd drop Archangel of Thune by one, Felidar Sovereign by two to add three Martyr of Sands. They are mana HEAVY and the Martyr will buy you more than enough time to get to them. I've played against a few lifegain decks and majority of my losses are because of the life gained off of Martyr

0
Posted 17 December 2013 at 13:36

I have made a few changes that required me to drop Archangel of Thune by one, Felidar Sovereign and by one. But I ended up finding more powerful cards to put in instead of Martyr. I can never seem to find room for her. I wonder if it would be worth swapping out some soul sisters.

0
Posted 23 December 2013 at 18:55

3 life per card revealed, I've yet to find a better once off healing effect, especially along side creatures that get better the more Life you have.

0

Try Soulmender instead of Soul Warden

0
Posted 17 December 2013 at 13:47

Why Soulmender? It is nice that it is not dependant upon creatures hitting the battlefield like soul warden. But soulwarden has the ability to give alot more than 1 life per turn because she gives me life when an opponent plays a creature and I don't have to tap her.

I think Soulmender would only be better in cases where my opponent is very light on creatures.

0
Posted 17 December 2013 at 19:20

Why is soulmender better than Soul Warden?

It is nice that soulmender is not dependant upon creatures hitting the battlefield. But between me and my opponent we will probably play at least on creature per turn.

I think I would swap in soulmender if my deck was lighter on creatures or if I was going up against an opponent with few creatures.

0
Posted 17 December 2013 at 19:23

it's not i just thought that because Soul's Attendant is already there and it is the same as Soul Warden, why not add another different creature.

0
Posted 17 December 2013 at 20:37

Have you seen them in action though? Things can get out of hand really fast with more than 2 or 3 Soul's Attendants/Wardens, and each of them individually activate Archangel's +1/+1 counters. Soulmender is just a really weak card for the fact that its a measly 1 life (2 life would have been much better), but it still only procs the effect once per turn. In this case, more Attendants/Wardens is always better, even when there are dry spells with no creatures per turn.

0
Posted 18 December 2013 at 17:45

I have always been amazed how powerful the soul sisters cards are, they are to cheap for you opponent to waste their removals on, so they just sit their all game generating life. I am always amazed at how life they generate by the end of the game for only one mana. They are hilarious when your opponent plays a token deck.

0
Posted 23 December 2013 at 19:01

One of my friends once had a deck like this, it kicked my butt, Thanks Obama.

One card I would consider would be Vigil for the Lost, it can be good for a late game mana sink, when your creatures are going to be hitting the grave in droves.

0
Posted 17 December 2013 at 14:14

I have considered a mana sink, but with all the creatures and card draws, too much mana hasn't been my biggest problem.

I am still considering putting in Oracle of Nectars, it is one mana cheaper than vigil for the lost. and it is a 2/2 creature. and it can use its ability anytime.

I have a very fun life gain deck, and your deck inspired me to revisit it and kinda amp up the life gain. Would love your input:
http://www.mtgvault.com/urinduil/decks/i-haz-life/ <---the original deck
http://www.mtgvault.com/urinduil/decks/genesis-of-endurance/ <---the new one I built
Though for your deck, the single thing I would change is take out the felidar sovereign and add test of endurance, which costs less both mana and price wise, the only difference being you have to have 50 life to win instead. Solid deck otherwise!

0
Posted 17 December 2013 at 21:49

yeah test of endurance is a good option, it might be good to have 2 felidar sovereign and 2 test of endurance.

I side boarded test of endurance because it wasn't legal in modern.

I will take a look at your decks.

I realy like the deck, looks like a lot of fun to play with. but since you use creatures a lot why not put in something like ordeal of heliod? +1/+1 counters and 10 life. if you put it one ajani's pridemate it can also be two mana 10 life.
if you have the time take a look at my new deck.

That will make it a $60

You coul also take a look at my other deck which is similar but cheaper:
