1) If you have out Purphoros and play plague of vermin. Pay 10 life, get 10 1/1's, and deal 20 damage to each opponent (or pay more life for more damage)2) Have out hostility and Purphoros. Hostility with Purphoros makes all your direct damage spells do double damage and targets all opponents (and gives you some attackers with haste), very helpful. Works because say you cast a lightning bolt. With hostility out the 3 damage is prevented but you get 3 3/1's with haste which also makes Purphoros deal 6 damage to all opponents.
