Rakdos Discard Sniper

by KJSJ3 on 30 October 2012

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Trying for a standard, tournament quality deck to use at FNM.

Uses discard with guttersnipe to reduce the opponents hand while dealing damage to them at the same time.

If all goes well and the deck turns out to be good, I might get the cards and put together the deck to use this friday.

Any improvements? Any thoughts for a SB?

Deck discussion for Rakdos Discard Sniper

Liliana of the Veil and Rakdos's Return fit the theme of the deck I think, but they may be on the expensive side.

Remind me later. I haven't decided on the deck I will use Friday. And you need to decide what you will use.

This deck would annoy the crap out of me if I has to play against it. Very nice build. What about mortars to board wipe your opponent if they happen to get to keep cards? I would as mentioned add rakdos return and maybe tragic slip incase something big happens to get out. Least sideboard them. Should aggravate you're opponents nicely.

I will be playing a deck a lot like this tonight, except im packing Desocration Demon, and Bloodgift Demon.
Have you considered adding Sign in Blood? In play testing they seem to be great!
Good luck tonight.

Thanks. There was actually a 3 headed sealed so I didn't use the deck. No, I hadn't considered sign in blood. The card draw could be helpful though. Could you put a link to your deck here so myself and others could check it out? Also, (when I put it up) could you check out my Golgari deck? It's not entirely based on scavenge like most, if not all others are.

Looks really nice, I was thinking of something similar a couple of weeks ago: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=396779

I didn't come up with a sideboard to it tho, and you seem to have found a nicer balance between removal/discard.. I think.

I'd much appritiate your input on it if you have the time.

Oh, and I dunno if you need slaughter games in main? That could go to sideboard I think, as well as dreadbore?

Ruiz maddi guildmage is bad and the cackler is not great (either can't block or is a vanilla 1/1 is not what you want) you can use some kind of finisher after you empty thier hand like thundermaw hellkite or Olivia
Shrieking affliction is also a notable mention
Also dreadbore beats augur spree
Lilliana of the veil is good here but loxodon smiter is going to be a pain for this dck

I am not to much help when it comes down to things to add to decks because I don't know to much of the thought that goes into it but just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

Just noticing that you do not have to many late game finishers so just wanted to add some extra help for what creatures you are going to have.

Enchantments mainly:
Stab Wound ~ mainly to slow down big heavy creatures and deal damage to their controller.
Shrieking Affliction ~ if the opponent is going to have 1 card or less in hand lose 3 life points
Predator's Gambit ~ +2/+1 your creature and gives intimidate if it is the only creature you control on field.

That's the only things I can think of right now. And well these cards should be fairly easy to obtain as well.

I think you could drop the drainpipe vermins for something more useful, maybe Appetite for Brains?
Or some more removal?

Silly question. What happens when they have no hand? and you get flooded with discard spells you cant use?

You put on your best poker face and bluff. Besides, the whole point is for them not to have a hand. If I have a bunch of cards that are worthless at the time, I won't play them so my mana will be open and I will have cards in my hand and that makes my opponent wonder what is in my hand, causing them to question what they should play (if they can play anything) and if they hold it back I can make them discard it.

How about Pack Rats instead of Rakdos Cackler? Cackler is good if you are going for a speedy aggro game, your attacking your opponents hand. Pack rats will let you capitalize your other rats and help give you your finisher.

for a sideboard, you might want to look into tormod's crypt, to eliminate those graveyard decks and flashback. maybe codex shredder to slowly mill them out and get back a card late game. sign in blood for early game card advantage, and to re-stock your opponents hand when they are out of cards. cremate to get more hand advantage, and to deal with flashback. maybe a few deathrite shamans for mana fixing. maybe a grafdigger's cage to stop more graveyard. i'd probably run black cat, as it makes people discard at random, which is pretty damn good. also try a witchbane orb to protect from burn decks. maybe rakdos ringleader for a bigger creature? thats my input. use what you like from it. hope you can build a good rakdos deck. :)

Tested this deck for two hours against aggro, mill and control decks as well as against people on Cockatrice. I won only a single game. That was after I traded out Murder and Searing Spear for Killing Wave and Rakdos Return.

What I found while testing was that the creatures were much too weak, even after I traded out Rakdos Cackler for Pack Rat. Either your creatures would just sit there and you would get wiped out by theirs or they would wipe out your creatures quickly and then wipe you out.

Discard is a nice thought but I found that one or two cards at a time wasn't fast enough. Especially against any aggro deck. The opponents starting hand was enough to kill me.

I like the concept, which is why I tested it for two hours, but I don't see it happening in a tournament.

Thanks for testing it out. I haven't figured out how to use cockatrice yet. I made the deck like this for ease of getting the cards. It still has a long way to go.

A couple of things I would suggest is to add sign in blood, liliana of the veil, shrieking affliction, and Olivia.

Sign in blood: this card would be very versatile for your deck; it can either let you draw cards, or be used as a combo piece for your discard spells in hand.

Liliana: I don't need to say much about how relevant she is for your deck.

Shrieking affection: this may be win-more, but it helps speeds up your victory since you lack bombs.

Olivia: with her utility, she can stand up to whatever manages to make it to the field, whether being stronger, pinging weenies, or stealing a creature for further advantage.

Hope this helps, if you can check out my B/W/R deck, I'd appreciate it, I need some advice on how to make it better.

I have seen some variations to this idea. One in particular has a deck tech from the pro tour and also using an enchantment from Return to Ravnica called Shrieking Affliction. I recommend taking a look at that card and play testing it. I agree with a lot of the other posters here. Get Rakdos's Return. Also Shimiam Specter. Those three cards may really round out this deck very well. Have fun testing. I hope I helped you out.

Im sorry, but I dont get how this deck got 95 likes. It´s just a mess... it´s not fast, discard is weak, no burn if the small little bad creatures wont get trough, slaughter games is a sideboard card, rakdos charm is just bad (sideboard card at best). Why is people liking this?

I made this deck like it was because I could easily get the cards. We all know, as it currently is, it sucks and it needs improvement. That is why I am trying to improve it. I am sorry if I or my deck offended you in any way. If you would like to see a better rakdos deck, click the link. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=404509

the problems I see is take out a drain pipe vermon for another duress, and there is a certain 1 mana enchntment from return to ravnica that works similar to the rack that you are missing and take out ravanous rats for black cat it's better if your opponent dosen't have a choice in the matter. And to trigger black cat you should run falkenreath aristocrat that'll help trigger the cat and the other drainpipe vermon.
Hope this helps.
