Deck Description

[Inspired by NorthernWarlord's Budget Series and the Aristocrat format.]
Aristocrat Format:
-Two Rares. Both cards must be different. (No Mythics.)
-12 Uncommons. Four sets of the same card, with a playset size of 3.
-The rest of the cards are commons, which must contain four different sets of 3 common cards. The remaining cards are allowed to have only 3 as a maximum playset size, excluding Basic Lands.
-Sideboards should contain 1 Rare, 3 Uncommons, and 8 Commons. The 8 Commons must be two different cards, each having full playsets.

Are you new to Magic: The Gathering? Is your collection of cards lacking? Do you need a new deck for your game night with your friends? Well look no further than here!

Be defensive with the Abzan Houses! Build up an army to last any attack from your opponents with the new +1/+1 Counter ability known as Outlast. Creatures with these counters will receive support from others like Abzan Battle Priest or Ainok Bond-Kin! Show just how scary a defensive army can be while Hardened Scales boosts your army's strength twice as fast, then be ready for any attack with Ivorytusk Fortress. If you're in a pinch, your arsenal of other spells from your main deck or sideboard can help you stay strong, build up, then strike hard!

The Budget / Starter series is to help people to who are either new to the Magic: The Gathering, or simply those who can not afford to spend a lot of money on booster packs or individual cards. It can be of help to beginners or experts alike.
[Please note that upon the making of this deck, most of the cards used have yet to be legalized.]

Deck discussion for [Budget] Aristocrat Abzan

Wow, Hardened Scales, bet that card will go up in price!
Absolutely needed in a deck like this.

Mind Rot seems extremely forced in this deck.
I would definitely take it out.

Any idea as to what I should replace it with? I would prefer the card be from Theros set and onward.

Wait, how about Dragonscale Boon?

Totally up to you friend, I would suggest playing it a few times, and see what you seem to be lacking at.

Why is Mer - Ek Nightblade not in this deck? I would think that uncommon outlast that gives deathtouch would hard to refuse. I would at least sideboard 3 of them to swap in for the battle priest against slower fat creature decks. Never underestimate the power of the first strike, death touch combo.

You do have a good point. I think I'll swap out Battle Priest for Nightblade. Thanks for the suggestions! I'm always happy to take new ones!

Any input on how this does in FNM? I've been meaning to switch out my mono-red since over 3/4 of the deck will be rotated out :( and I'm on a tight budget, willing to spend maybe at least 50+ depending on how much i get from my mill and mono-red decks.

I'm confused as to what you're asking. Are you asking if I will make you a budget deck? Or how does this particular deck play in an actual game?

How does it play in an FNM is what I'm asking. Sorry about the confusion :D

Dammit beat me to the punch I have been looking at the +1/+1 counters and extra ability (flying, reach, deathouch etc...) cards from Tarkir. Well done this is a very nice deck

Very well done, I would suggest High Sentinels of Arashin for sideboard instead of hushwing gryff, since it synergizes better with your deck. And personally I like Revoke Existence better than solemn offering (but that's largely a preference thing, and the +4 life in a long-game deck can certainly be better)

You got a point. I mainly put Hushwing in there in case I was facing a bounce deck or something of the sorts. So, I'll replace him with the High Sentinels. And thank you for your opinions on the deck. I appreciate any help I can get.

I really wish high sentinels of arashin was in here, but I don't what I'd take out, this deck is just too good

Good deck! ??. Has this been played? If so, how did it go?

It has not. Unfortunately for me, I don't have the money, friends, or place to play Magic. I have a very small collection of cards, but my friends aren't interested in playing the game, and I don't have / know of a local card shop that has Friday Night Magic.
But, I thank you for your like and support!

This is a very affordable and viable deck. I will try this with some customizations at FNM. Most of the cards are easily obtainable. Good luck finding or making a play group.

Yep, 16 bucks!
Makes the deck even better when you realize it has 2 rares and so cheap to build.
Good stuff.

I built a similar deck yesterday after receiving a fat pack. I would like your opinion on it please.
Also, I like your choice of name and I know how you feel Hero. I am having trouble reaching any events.

Hey I found this with my Abzan deck but pure Outlast is very slow, you should include some mana ramping creatures such as Birds of Paradise, Elvish Mystic or Avacyn's Pilgrim to help accelerate your deck play. In order to do so maybe cut back on the Outlast buffs your creatures dont need e.g. you have flying with Abzan Falconer you dont need Longshot Squad for reach. Hope that helps! Still loving the idea
