Deck Description

Trying my best to break Lich. Help is appriciated since I'm not sure how this card use to be used. This seems pretty fun though. If you get Lich out correctly and don't screw yourself you can repay in kind and kill everyone but you its pretty cool. Or you can just swap life totals with someone and have life and lich on the field.

Also I have one query if any judge out their can help me. If I have both Lich and Lich's Mirror on the field and somehow I exile Lich (the enchantment) until end of turn. Do I lose then Lich's Mirror triggers and I start over again with 20 life and 7 cards. Except Lich (the enchantment) is still exiled and it comes back after I've started over. Or does that effect just fizzle or something. Please help.

Deck discussion for The Undying Lich

So a couple things... technically you can't swap life totals because you can not gain life, the draw ability of the Lich. I could be mistaken but I believe it works that way. As for the Lich's Mirror, you would not get the Lich after you've started over, it would get shuffled back into your deck. It falls under the "permanents you own" category.

Addendum; you can not swap life totals with someone who has more* life than you. The only useful card I've used with that in mind is Death's Shadow, where going into the negative's actually increases its power and toughness

I've just started looking into Lich decks, and I know I am responding to this two years after it was posted knowing chances are slim anyone will read this.

That said, I believe the above statement is incorrect. I believe you can switch life totals with someone. Switching life totals is not the same thing as gaining life - gaining life is a specific keyword function. Using Mirror Universe + Lich was a very common tactic back in the day.

So it would seem that Magus of the Mirror is the equivalent of Mirror Universe. CMC is the same too.

Doing a little further research. From MotM ruling:
If an effect says that a player can't lose life, that player can't exchange life totals with a player who has a lower life total; in that case, the exchange won't happen.

And Lich: If you would gain life, draw that many cards instead.

Lich doesn't prevent you from gaining life, it just swaps life gain out for card draw. I think it is still legal.

I was wrong when I said that switching life is not the same as gaining life. Per MotM ruling:

When the life totals are exchanged, each player gains or loses the amount of life necessary to equal the other player's previous life total. For example, if player A has 5 life and player B has 3 life before the exchange, player A will lose 2 life and player B will gain 2 life. Replacement effects may modify these gains and losses, and triggered abilities may trigger on them.
