Deck Description

The latest update of an ongoing project of mine. The idea is to basically maximize damage output in the early to mid-game through burn, Guttersnipe, and the other creatures. I have yet to order cards for this update, so suggestions and advice would be super helpful.

How to Play

-Burn for killing stuff
-Young Pyromancer for tokens
-Guttersnipe for even more direct damage
-Gelectrode for killing more stuff
-Cyclops and Dragonauts for smashing in faces

Deck discussion for Thoroughly Modern Izzet

Is this meant to be budget? There are lots of good cards you can run, but I'm not sure if you are willing to spend or how competitive you need to be

I'd like it to be fairly competitive while still preserving the fun. I'm also working on a medium budget, but I'm willing to work toward more expensive additions. Any changes that could be made on a budget would be great, but I'll hear you out on the more expensive and potentially add those in the future.

i think young pyromancer, delver of secrets, electrolyze, spell pierce are good budget options that are competitive

I switched out Monastery Swiftspear for Young Pyromancer, and I'll look into the other suggestions. Thanks again!

If you want to maintain your tempo, you'll want card draw. I'd recommend Invoke the Firemind or Fascination.
A card that I absolutely love for Izzet is Crackleburr. It is incredible, boasting repeated burn and bounce, granted you have a couple other creatures on the field. Gelectrode, the Cyclops, and the Dragonauts will all synergize very well with it.
Sphinx-Bone Wand is a potential card for late game power boosting.

Thanks for the tips! Crackleburr is awesome. For card draw, Invoke the Firemind is excellent, but it's a bit less effective in a deck that's so light on lands and ramp. I'll see what I can do, though.

Howling Mine!

Thanks for looking! Howling Mine is a great card, but I feel like making room for it would detract from the deck's main focus, since it's not an instant or sorcery, nor does it trigger when one is cast. If I add more card draw, it might be better to make it an instant or sorcery.

Maybe run another Isochron scepter, It just depends on whether its ability counts as casting it. If it does than that will trigger all your stuff which will be helpful, but if it doesn't than its a lot less effective. Other than that, I think that your deck is going to take a while to kill your opponent, Young Pyromancer, guttersnipe, and gelectrode are all a little small, but I hacent played this type of deck much so I don't really know.

Also, what about talrand, sky summoner?

Talrand is great, though Young Pyromancer is still nice because of the lower CMC. Not sure how I'd make room for Talrand. Maybe drop Wee Dragonauts or Nivix Cyclops? Though I like both those cards quite a bit. Isochron Scepter does count as casting, cause it says, "you may cast the copy". I might go ahead and throw in another Isochron Scepter for more consistency. Damage from burn, Guttersnipe, Gelectrode and the Dragonauts + Cyclops add up fairly quickly, but it is a bit slower than I'd like. Any suggestions to speed it up? I've considered adding Monastery Swiftspear for more speed, but I'm not sure what I'd drop in exchange. Any suggestions?

Yeah I understand why talrand might not be so good, but if you're looking to play the grindy control game he'll be helpful. Your deck does look to be fast so I think that maybe he will just be too expensive for you to cast most of the time. As for speed, I think as long as you can keep a moderate board state (and with young pyromancer I think you can, I think most your damage will still come from burn and maybe the wee dragonauts since it has flying. So maybe just add some more powerful burn?

I've got the upper end of burn power with low CMC. Perhaps a bit more control or card draw, I'm not sure. I'll keep playing around with it.

Yeah I know there aren't too many cheap yet efficient burn options, so I agree that card draw is probably one of your best options.

Thanks, glad you like it! This has been one of my favorite decks to play for a while, just for all the synergy.
