Cruncher. Whats your opinion of this deck versus version 2 of it? Playing dual-colors is not something I normally do.
Version 2 is located here: http://www.mtgvault.com/lithionlx/decks/dying-shades-v2/

Awesome Thanks. I'm not sure how to slide him in there. He's pretty nasty and could definitely do some damage.

The Gates are literally and only for Gateway Shade. Their purpose being that +2/+2 lift per gate. That has more 5th turn value than Godless Shrine. Lifting a Gateway shade to a 5/5 on "2 mana" and that leaves mana for Gifting the Shade.

so 6/6 Flying and Life-link for Two Gates. and 3 mana on turn 5. I will be smacked by then. I will need that life-link badly.

Need card names and examples. Haven't played since 2003, haven't been back playing a month yet. Still trying to get my head wrapped around guilds. Of all the places on the net to find a Orzhov guild guide. I find one in Forbes Magazine. Version 3 soon...

My suggestions would be the following:
Side board 4X Contaminated Ground.
Go down to 3 of each creature.
Look at adding a set of one of the following:
Tribute to Hunger
Dead Weight
Undying Evil
Dark Imposter
Skeletal Grimace
Cower in Fear
Mutilate
Wight of Precinct Six

In my humble Nub opinion. I offer the following:
drop two or all revenge for rancor. You have no ramp. Which is what green is insanely good at. Add 1 more Swamp and 1 more Forest. Sideboard the Scorpions, main board Deathrite shamans x4. This will allow you to get through the undying creatures.

Killing Creatures with Undying it does hit the graveyard before it comes back, undying is a triggered state effect. You can then exile it once it hits the graveyard. "In response to your creature dying as a result of combat and being sent to the graveyard, I activate Deathrite Shaman's 3rd ability for 1 green mana and exile that creature" Want to piss people off more? Run Grave Betrayal.

I'm not a huge fan of soulbond. Its a watered down and very poor version of Banding. Banding was done at the combat step. and went away at the end of combat. This is done immediately upon entering play and they are stuck that way for the remainder of in play. There are just to many circumstances you would need them to be separate creatures.

Drop the Killing Waves for Giant Growths. Swing with a Creature, allow them to declare blockers, Giant Growth your creature. in that order. They will only do it once and its a mind rake the next time you swing at them.

Side Board the Golgari Charms for two Naturalize and two Mutilate or for just 4 Naturalize.
Drop the Orbs and the Ground Seal (ground seal is counter productive to the deathrite shamans) from the side board. pick up more cheap 2 or 3 cost black creature removal.

The Decks design is to hold out to ramp , enchant with Dying Wish ,Pump shades to sacrifice them.

If I can get the Ramp working properly, I am going to move two Grave Betrayals to the Side Board.

The benefit of the gates are two fold. 1) Mana for the gifts , 2) +2/+2 to the Gateway Shades. Orzhov Guildgate and Orzhov Keyrune are the only Type II Legal Orzhov Cards. If i can find a way to make this better, I will jump at it.

If you compare version 1 with this one, Its a mana curve correction to lean harder to 1 and 2. Dropped 1 Liliana OTDR , The Manor Skeletons (1B) x4 for Tormented Soul (B) x4. Dropped 2 Devour Flesh for 2 more Dying Wishes, Dropped 4 Tribute to Hunger to add 2 Murder and 2 Gifts of Orzhova. If there is a better 1 colorless or 1 black mana creature than Tormented Souls I would love to use it instead. Even if its a 0/1. The early game should consist of creature removal and buying time to turn 4/5/6.

And yes, Thragtusk. I am a returning player (left 2003) and have a lot to catch up on. This deck is comprised of cards/abilities that i am most familiar with as an old school player.

What sort of tournament performance do you get out of this? I have a similar build and I'm getting wrecked.
