Since the first Dominaria previews, it seems like everyone has been trying to come up with a decent Standard Wizards deck. Recently, both Jim Davis and "The Professor" of Tolarian Community College have shared wizard tribal decks that are far more aggressive than most of us have attempted, using wizards with the Prowess mechanic alongside Adeliz's built-in pump. I thought this was an awesome way to build Wizards, but I am also slowing things down a bit and leaning back into a mid-range style. I guess I just can't stand to play a wizards deck without Wizard's Retort. I also feel Shock is a bit redundant when Wizard's Lightning is available, plus I want to try to rely on as many rotation-proof spells that I can at this point. That is going to toss the whole Prowess thing out the window in a couple months, but for now this is a fun and easy deck to play and build.
Not as aggressive as the original decks it is based on, my version slows things down in order to build up a decent pack of wizards to swoop in with. We can hit our drops on curve all day, but it takes a couple turns before we can do anything with Prowess or Adeliz's ability. Open Into Wonder triggers those and gives us an unblockable attack combined with extra cards, while Tempest Caller also opens up a hole for us to strike on the turn she comes in.
