Deck Description

This deck transformed since the beginning of Avacyn. It was first a G / B / U zombie deck, then slowly became a G / B graveyard/swarm deck. Firstly, I love zombie decks and graveyard decks, so this was a natural choice for me. The only deck I bothered to play in Yugioh (years ago) was zombie / grave. I decided to give the zombies a break and go for a very pesky deck made to punish the opponent for killing my creatures.

NOTE: Consider the Sideboard my 'Wishlist', cards I don't have that I would like to add to the deck.

How to Play

Just about every creature can come out on turn 2 with the right mana, giving this deck a very quick start up. Ravenous Rats, Drainpipe Vermin and Black Cat annoy the opponent while deflecting incoming blows (discard and mana gain from Dawntreader Elk) while the opponent's larger creatures are dealt with by Deadly Recluse (deathtouch). While my 'vermin' creatures fend off and reduce the opponent's hand (hopefully removing vital cards in the process), my graveyard builds up. Cards like Grisly Scavenging add to my 'live' and 'dead' army while Spider Spawning provides anti-air and Gnaw To the Bone can save me from death in late game.

There are several card combinations that prove extremely effective when left unchecked, such as:

Bonehoard / Graveyard Wurm + Rancor. (X / X + Trample)
Highborn Ghoul + Wreath of Geists. (X / X + Intimidate)
Essence Harvest + Ghoultree (10 / 10, potentially and quite often costs 1-2 mana early in the game, grants me 10 life while knocking 10 off an opponent)

There are several combinations including the cards above that prove effective at striking killing blows. Matches can potentially be won through one powerful strike after residual damage from earlier skirmishes.

Pros: Can be effective at swarming and whittling off my opponent's resources (discard through creatures and Codex Shredder). Several ways to pull of a 10+ / 10+ creature instantly.

Cons: Very limited defense in a multiplayer match. Must pick off weaker opponents in order to survive (how befitting!)

Overall: I love the theme to this deck, and that makes me happy.

Comments and suggestions are welcome, just remember that this is the deck I actually play with (if and when I bother to) and is based on what I can afford at the moment. ^_^

Deck discussion for Grave Vermin

Instead of the guildgates, why not add extra cemeterys? That way, your lands aren't always coming in to play tapped, but they're still multi-colored. Also, I would recommend Grim Backwoods, as it helps with the whole graveyard aspect of your deck, and it allows you to draw a card.

I'd love more cemeteries, but as I stated, this is my physical deck and haven't the fortune to get cemeteries :(
And Grim Backwoods would be perfect! Let's hope I can get my hands on some! Thanks for the tips.
