Deck Description

because it probably isn't. One would think that with Stromkirk noble busting through human decks, Stromkirk captain pumping up first strike to hold off zombies, and Olivia pinging and stealing beefy titans, that the vampire tribal deck would be sick since it seems to have an answer to many dominant decks in the meta game currently. Unfortunately is just ain't gonna happen in standard because of 1 card...vapor snag.

The vampire tribe revolves around gaining counters. Against many decks this can be very powerful. T1 Strom Noble, T2, curse of stalked prey Noble hits for 1 and becomes a 3/3. T3 Rakish Heir, noble hits for 3 and is a 6/6...Great!!!.....vapor snag, and he is back in your hand as 1/1. Yeah, you had 6 power on the board, but you only landed with the smaller versions and only did 4 damage. Currently there are too many decks out there running vapor snag as a 4 of, and if there wan't vapor snag it would be unsummon. In any case, the cheap bounce spells just ruin vampire counter building, and so vampires as a tribe. Too much of the deck looks to get as many counters on as fast as possible, only to get bumped, destroyed right before they swing in with the whammy.

That being said, vampires have some ridiculously strong cards. Although they may not be put in a "vampire tribe," I believe that new decks could be constructed around olivia and bloodline keeper, and to a lesser extent stromkirk noble. Take the allstars and ditch the tribe for now.

Deck discussion for Vampires: don't call it a comeback

I like the build. You should check out my vampire deck I built, it does pretty well against some of the top decks right now. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=307863
