Deck discussion for Standard Humans

-2 abolishers, -2 mikaeus, +4 mirran crusaders. It'll add some offense to your deck without hurting it too bad. Also too many of a legenday is not necessarily a good thing. If you run into them too frequently, you'll end up with a dead draw...

And why sword of feast and famine? The extra mana won't help as much when you have no instants. And the second main phase won't be as effective of a drop as you don't have many super low cost humans. Try instead war and peace? Humans should be a quick deck, especially in white. You'll get some nice damage on them from their hand still being pretty full. Plus it's half the cost (In $) as opposed to feast and famine.

OMG, can't believ i forgot about Mirran crusader, thanks for pointing that out. I also took out feast and famine and put in war and peace...war and peace was what i was after anyways...i always get the swords mixed. Thank You.

Contagion Engine is really expensive for just proliferate. Contagion Clasp is a better option, as it can kill a 1/1 creature when dropped at 2 mana, and can start proliferating late. Tezzeret's Gambit is also a better choice, as it comes with draw which SoWaP, but it only proliferates once.

Agreed, I tried Unruly mob in my human deck and was really that impressed. It is too slow and reqires a lot of your creatures to die to be effective. 4 Mentors is a bit of overkill as well, I'd cut them to 2-3.
You can try adding a couple of Angelic Overseers, those guys help a lot later in game. You can also try adding a few adaptive automatons, those never hurt ;)

yea i agree with cfirst, if you do add in overseerd, chuk in concerted effort, it'll help. speaking of help please come check out my deck! http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=269997

Honestly, I'd cut the mentors all together. They're just not as good as everyone thinks they are. Late game, you should be dropping bombs. Ones that are too big for the mentor or enough of the little things that the mana being spent is on your creatures and not card draw.

As said above, the overseers aren't bad. But they're expensive and you should add no more than two unless you want to run into them really often.

As for the automaton..... They're cute, but they die easily. I run them in my humans for the sole reason that they are artifacts and that's how my deck runs, but otherwise they are too easily destroyed. Burn, shattered, doom blade...... Just too much hate and too easily done.

since your soldiers protect you from damage, why dont you put in leyline of sanctity in? just for protection for yourself, i mean you can sideboard it incase you come by a discarding deck.... im still new so its just a thought :P, please come check out my deck http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=269997

Ok, so i took out the unruly mob and x2 MotM. I added in x2 angelic overseer's because they are just beast with humans. I also added in x2 fiend hunters for alittle extra control. Does that sound good to you guys?

0

How about bonds of faith instead? They will give you some extra control against non human decks and they can be used for buffing your creatures if needed (works especially well with Mirran Crusader ;)).

Bonds of Faith is like a combined pacifism and a buff, depending on what u need it for. I think YES. i totally forgot about that when i posted.

Hmmm, it is cheaper than fiend hunter and enchantments are harder to kill, for control. I like it guys, Thank You.

So I am starting to think about a side board. Any suggestions?

I was thinking maybe Elspeth?
Maybe some day of judgments, or a couple of sword of body and minds

I'd add some extra control. 4 Fiend Hunters, 3-4 Gideon's Lawkeepers to keep things like Hero of Bladehold or Primeval Titan tapped, 2 Revoke Existence and 2-3 dismembers.

What about Spare From Evil? Great for a finishing move as well as a last line of defence. My friend uses it in his human deck, usually resulting in me losing. Also, do you really need that much land in a one colour deck? I'd personally take out 2 land, but it's up to you. A Coat Of Arms or two would probably make a nice little addition while you're at it haha.

Coat of Arms isn't standard legal and Spare from evil is terrible in the mirror match.... Just a thought.

I would suggest either a few Gideon's Lawkeepers or some Elite Vanguards.

i agree with the Elite Vanguard. You should have more 1 drops.

Ok, 24 plains, too many, 2 hero of bladehold, too few. thats my suggestion. Oh and 4 Angelic Destiny, too many.

So basic math tells you -1 angelic destiny. -1 plains. +2 Hero of bladehold. Like seriously, did you even read hero of bladehold, its a million times better than Angelic overseer.... it says hey.. deal with me this turn (turn 4) or lose. ... angelic overseer says hey im just gonna attack for 5 next turn. hero says im attacking for over 30...... what the fuck sound better to you? winning turn 5 or playing a fuckit creature that sits on her thumb and does absolutely nothing? take that fat bitch out and put in some adaptive automations or some shit, something that will actually I dunno win the game or something?

and honestly, have you ever been to a big tournament? .... I don't think a sideboard should ever have 4 ofs in it.... and besides 9 cards in SB is instant DQ-go home. If you wanna go agro try elite vanguard and adaptive autos and more heros. If you wanna go control, do more control spells or lawkeeper or some dumb shit. And O-ring is better than bonds of faith In my opinion. But you have your own style.

Oh and the +1+1 counters seem to want some sort of proliferation. Your running mono white which isn't bad, but honestly you should splash either red for agro (adding in fast humans and the red hero) or green for Mayor of Arbuck .... I mean he pumps all humans, and if he's not doing that then hes pumping out 3/3 wolves every turn. You could easily splash blue for tezzerets gambit and some control proliferate cards. But mono white is harsh, what are your win/loss stats with this deck?

I am relatively newto magic, been playing about 5 months. No I have not been in any big tournaments. I knew this deck needed a lot of help that is why I put it on the website. As for the sideboard I am not done with it, I am still trying to figure out what to put in there that would go good with the deck. Thank you for all the constructive help.

How does it look now? Do you have any ideas for the sideboard?

0
Posted 16 December 2011 at 06:42

How does hero attack for over 30?

But yeah, overseer is garbage. But mono white humans needs to be QUICK. Otherwise you get curb stomped.

And adaptive automaton? It's cute, but too easily dealt with. Try Honor of the Pure. Less destruction of enchantments in standard than artifacts...

0

honor of the pure doesnt have great synergy with Mentor of the Meek as ur creatures pass the power 2 mark. I say +2 Bonds of faith (great card) +3 Tezzeret's gambit (u dont need to splash blue just suck it up and pay 2 life. Draw and Proflierate is a great combo) -2 Automatons (ur getting a bunch of bonuses anyway its a waste of 2 cards. The deck is solid without him), -1 Angelic Destiny (the +4/+4 is great but i never liked the "becomes an angel" part. Bonds of faith is a better pump), -2 Mentor (Tezzeret's is better for draw).

Another quick thing is that SoWaP gives the equipped creature protection from white. Uh... I'm fairly certain that includes ur own spells too. Something to think about....

@nickbooth hmm i didnt think about the SoWaP.
Thanks for the ADvice everyone when I get off work I will make some of the changes you guys suggested.

If you want to splash in blue for control I'd put in Invisible Stalker as well. Hexproof and Unblockable. Plus it guarantees your Angelic Overseer is indestructible and hexproof. As for enchantments I'd put in Spirit Mantle (+1+1 and protection from creatures).

Fiend Hunter in sideboard? I'd main deck him over the Cathars

Have you thought about using a Dearly Departed I use him in my human deck.

0

the best part of this deck is that it has a low mana cost in addition to its awesomeness. Dearly Departed is really expensive to play when its best ability is when its in the graveyard.

Ok, so I sideboarded Elder Cathar and MotM...I put Fiend Hunter and Tezzeret's Gambit into the main deck. I also put in 3 Surgical Exstraction's into the sideboard. How does this look guys?

I have my spin on a Human deck posted as well, I wasn't the biggest fan of adding in the Automatons because I feel you get enough of a boost from the Honor of the Pure, Mikaues, and the counters that add up on Champion of the Parish. That is also why I do not run Bonds of Faith. I feel as though a Human deck should try and run as fast as possible, so adding in some more 1 mana options, in my opinion, would help alot.

0

You should run a few blue white lands. They won't hurt you, and they may give you an option to play Tez Gambit with no life loss. If you don't want to run them, run 1 buried ruin to get your sword or automaton back. Won't hurt you, might help occasionally.

I'd sideboard Feast and Famine and dump Elder Cathar.

0

You should -2 Elite Vanguard, -1 Fiend hunter, -1 Oblivion Ring and +4 Doomed Traveler, why? Because a 1/1 for 1 is nice, and if you run into board wipe or have to use him as a chump blocker he just gets better, plus your opponents won't always want to block him because of just that. also you should -5 or -6 plains and +3 or +4 Razorverge Thicket and +2 Gavony Township. Pumping more counters onto your guys later game seems like a good idea to me, and depending on your meta-game maybe you want to -1 more oblvion ring and +1 Bonds of Faith, it is really good against Titans or just wrecking your opponent early game vs control match-ups. Then again i'm still pretty nooby so you can choose to ignore my advice, just a friendly suggestion, Good job on the deck though.

id -1 hero and -1 feind hunter for 2 abolisher

possibly doomed traveler in vanguard out travelers more effective early game as vanguard just dies traveler dies twice so it good as a blocker and i think abolishers should be main at least 2 i think
+2 doomed traveler
+2 abolisher
-2 automaton
-2 vanguard
