Deck Description

A budget aggro-ish deck that should be able to beat faster decks fairly easily.

How to Play

This deck is supposed to hold off Sligh decks such as Red Deck Wins, which (at least in my meta) is very popular right now. Against a control deck, however, you would want to play it as an aggro deck.

Against Sligh, you'll want to leave your early game creatures untapped so they can trade with your opponent's early game creatures. A creature can be held off for a turn with Azorius Arrester, and then trade with something. A creature can be exiled with Banisher Priest, you can Arrest larger threats, Blind Obedience stops haste, and you can have a creature block for days with Gift of Immortality. For more fun, put gift of Immortality on Banisher Priest or Azorius Arrester.

Now that you've survived the early game, it's time to start putting down your threats. Serra Angel is great in this situation as it can wear down your opponent while continuing to block. Its four toughness puts it out of range of most burn spells and creatures. There's also Hundred Handed One, also a great blocker/beater, even if you don't use Monstrosity, and it's even more unlikely to die. And then if you put down Angelic Skirmisher, it's pretty much over. Just choose Lifelink, attack with everything, and you should be well out of range of them killing you now.

Brave the Elements is in here for obvious reasons. It counters almost anything that targets your creatures or deals damage to them, and it makes a nice combat trick.

When sideboarding against Sligh, you'll want more Blind Obedience if they're using lots of haste. You'll also want Gift of Immortality, unless perhaps they are running lots of removal/burn.

There are many different types of control decks. Against any control deck, you will basically want to be an aggro deck. Against your average instant-based control deck, you will want to side out Blind Obedience, Arrest, and Banisher Priest. You should put in God's Willing, Boros Elite, and if they are running AEtherling or an annoying planeswalker, Pithing Needle. Depending on how much killing removal they have you may also want to add or remove more Gifts of Immortality.

Against a control deck that uses lots of creature blockers or another midrange deck, the deck is basically good how it is. However, consider carefully how "aggressive" your opponent's deck is. If he has a midrange deck that's slightly more aggressive than yours, playing control style is your best hope. Against a more control-based deck, you will want to be aggressive yourself. After determining who's the control player (and considering what the player has in his deck), you should sideboard accordingly.

Against a control deck with lots of walls, consider sideboarding in more Blind Obedience. That way, their walls can't block right away, and you may be able to finish them off with extort.
