This fun deck for Modern is based on one premise...hurt yourself, hurt your opponents even more. Death's Shadow can be active early in a match with the combination of Thoughtseize, fetch/shock lands, and Gut Shots. While you remove their pesky mana-dorks or Young Pyromancers with Bolts and Gut Shots, you're setting up for a monstrous 1 mana creature. Dealing with a burn deck? Don't worry. You don't have to hurt yourself as much. Use Lotleth Troll to pitch your Shadows and Bloodghasts to scavenge with Varolz and have a huge creature with regeneration. Second game? Bring in the more midrange sideboard replacements when you expect some active graveyard hate. At worst, top-decking a 1 mana creature late game that is a 5/5 when you have 8 life is going to be pretty awesome compared to top-decking a Birds of Paradise.
