As prices on Gatecrash cards are at their peak, I'm taking a timid dip into the Gatecrash card pool with a few very cheap cards that allow me to explore some of the new mechanics slowly. My first foray into Gatecrash is with the Evolve mechanic and Cloudfin Raptor as well as the cypher mechanic with Hands of Binding. A fellow player was building a deck using Cloudfin Raptor in one of their deck builds and the card caught my eye, so I came up with this deck using a few of my favorite sleeper hits, like Kraken Hatchling and Hover Barrier and supplementing them with evolve friendly cards like Frostburn Wierd. The real fun is with the Faerie Imposters. It is pretty easy to quickly evolve the Cloudfin Raptor's with a single Kraken Hatchling and a Faerie Imposter. Favorable Winds offers a little extra kick. The mana requirements are extremely low, peaking at 4 with Clone. This means you can actually play with one land in your opening hand if you have to, but obviously having two lands is comfortable. The other new card I liked is Hands of Binding. Properly used, you can tap down two creatures when you cast it an slap it on one of your flying creatures to keep things locked down. I won't include a sideboard as this is an MTGO casual budget build.Minor Update: After a bit of playtesting, I decided to replace the Kraken Hatchlings with Wingcrafter and Clone with Mist Raven. See the sideboard selection for suggestions.Obviously, an Invisible Stalker would make perfect sense with Hands of Binding. Of course, Ring of Evos Isle makes an excellent equipment for blue creatures.
