Deck Description

This deck explores the WOTC trend towards creature based deckbuilding. The idea is to use soft-removal effects (Deathtouch, Heroic, Inspired) triggers rather than hard removal spells. I use no instant or sorcery removal spells, but rely on creature attributes to achieve my removal.

Agent of Fates is horrible for players to have to deal with on turn 3. Heroic is a janky mechanic and Agent of Fates is probably the strongest heroic creature in black.

King Macar can get bonkers in the right situation providing for an exile a turn.

I did include Gary despite my general dislike of the devotion mechanic. Just because I don't like a mechanic or card, doesn't mean I can ignore it.

Deathgaze Cockatrice sees play because flying deathtouch can deal with a wide variety of threats including what most people would mainboard as a Desecration Demon in many black builds.

Although Chariot of Victory is a pretty mediocre card, the first strike should work well on death touch creatures.

Cruel Feeding is a nice trick that scales well. The strive gives a player an option to target more than one creature and I've been exploring that mechanic quite a bit.

This deck is fairly budget friendly and reasonably competitive for a casual deck. The idea was interesting to explore. I tend to find overspending on decks in formats that tend to be dominated by degenerate or pay to win net-decks is a mistake.

The lackadaisical sideboard may need some refinement.

This deck also continues my recent trend of moving back towards mono-colored builds as I prepare for the demise of the guildgate era and affordable land fixing in standard play. Obviously, I still have plenty of guild builds to currently play but it is not clear that affordable fixing will survive rotation.
