Deck Description

This is a budget friendly Simic build using only Gatecrash cards. The build is meant for casual play on MTGO and seems to show a lot of promise. Simic has a lot to offer players. Let's take a look at this build.

The maindeck mana build has no card that costs more than three mana. This allows us to reduce the number of lands from the typical 24 down to 22 in this build.

Glaring Spotlight makes its appearance in this deck. It provides possible protection and unblockability while allowing the Simic Manipulator to target an opponent's cards. Hexproof can be a problem for the Simic Manipulator and having a Glaring Spotlight can reduce the problems hexproof provides.

Drakewing Krasis and Nimbus Swimmer round out the flying creatures in this deck. I find Drakewing Krasis is a formidable offensive threat, but its limited to trading on defense. Nimbus Swimmer provides the possibility of open ended evolving well into the game. I usually play it later when I have more mana available.

Elusive Krasis makes for an excellent choice of unblockable attackers. It's also great target for the one Dimir card, Hands of Binding, included in the deck.

Cloudfin Raptor makes its appearance. It's a nice one drop that can be evolved by most other cards in the deck. In fact, only the Simic Manipulator will not evolve it. I tend to find three of these is enough in a deck and four feels like overkill.

Another one drop is the Wasteland Viper. Wasteland Viper can evolve both the Simic Manipulator and Cloudfin Raptor while providing excellent defense.

Zemeck Guildmage edges out Fathom Mage for a spot to provide limited drawing possibilities as well as a possible boost to creatures when they enter the Battlefield. I like Fathom Mage but tend to find that main boarding a card that costs 4 to cast and is only 1/1 to begin with is a bit problematic so I'm opting for the lower casting cost Zameck Guildmage.

The backbone of the deck is Simic Manipulator. Getting Simic Manipulator to evolve is critical. If you can get the Agorophobia in play, then you can use the Simic Manipulator to regularly steal their creatures.

I enjoy it. It's fun to be able to brew guild decks using only the Gatecrash set. So far, only two guilds have budget viable builds. The other builds require more expensive cards to work.
