Deck Description

This is a budget red control deck. Many red builds focus on the burn aspect. This build was designed with an assumption that control is a better way to handle bombs like Desecration Demon. It is much easier to steal (Harness by Force), attack, and then sacrifice a Desecration Demon than it is to burn it. Likewise, a well used Fall of the Hammer (one-sided fight) and a titan's strength can actually get rid of it. I originally tested the deck using Regathan Firecats, but switched to the Pyrewild Shaman. The Pyrewild Shaman works well with tramplers, creating the possibility of discarding the Pyrewild to grow a creature and then recovering it for use next turn when the trample damage is applied.

Quietly, I included the font of Ire for some direct damage, which might also work well with Fanatic of Mogis. I've left some of that to the sideboard. I've tried to keep the mana curve low, but in the sideboard, I've included some bombs as well. I often like to use Chaos Imps, but in this build, I'm using Forgestoker Dragon. Either will do, and I'm sure the truly bold might even go so far as to use a Colossus of Akros :)

In any case, I think red control builds offer red a better chance at winning against decks that often have larger creatures. One thing this deck does not have, but might benefit from in the sideboard is a glaring spotlight should it run into a hexproof deck. OTOH, it might be easier to just shift to the direct damage approach of siding in the Font of Ires.

It also has the advantage of a life gain component which can be useful against other red decks that often do not.

Anyway, this is my current standard red build. It incorporates a lot of different cards from across Standard and I think it's fun to play if you can get past the turn them sideways stage.
