With rotation on the horizon, I am continuing my builds of Block constructed decks. This time I am focusing on Rakdos.

A few major differences at this point in the release looking towards post-rotation trends: undying will be a mechanic of the past, indestructibility is more limited, hexproof is more limited.

As much as I liked the Innistrad block, I am now at the point where investing heavily in Innistrad cards is no longer a sensible priority. Prices trend down post-rotation and in Standard heavy play environments (like MTGO), I want to maximize the play life of my cards.

In any event, this brew is a post-Gatecrash look at Rakdos which minimizes the rush nature of Rakdos and sets up a deeper game.

Undercity Informer Informer and cipher cards like Midnight Recovery form the backbone of my Rakdos re-modeling. With cards like Conjurer's Closet and Demonmail Haurberk slated for rotating out, Undercity Informer steps in to allow for the necessary sacrifice in combination with an Act of Treason.

Adding Guttersnipe to the deck improves the situation dramatically. When you cast Act of Treason, you get to do two damage to your opponent, then you steal their creature and attack with, sacrifice it to Undercity Informer grinding their library.

The same mechanics could be applied to Gruul using Gobbling Ooze, but the cipher mechanic gives Rakdos a slight edge as it acts like the new flashback allowing you to maximize Guttersnipe triggers.

The side deck provides some alternative build cards worth considering. Hellhole Flailer and the cipher ready Shadow Slice provide more direct damage alternatives. Grisly Spectacle provides direct removal and stab wound provides a mix of removal and passive damage opportunities.
