Deck Description

I played this deck in a Grand Prix trial event and won. A lot of the games played over the matches throughout the day were kinda rocky but it ended up being a lot of fun to pilot. My primary goal was to dominate my opponents board and not let them get enough presence to impact the game then I'd try to play Master of Cruelties to damage them and break them down to 1 life point and burn them for the win. I was able to win with Aetherling as well as he is an obvious and great choice for control decks of ANY kind. The different counter spells proved good to have because sometimes I wasn't drawing mana that would have worked with dissolve but maybe it worked with psychic strike. Overloaded Mizzium Mortars proved great against Elspeth. The primary focus was killing any of my opponents threats and then slowly working towards the kill.

Post - board was great against all the decks I played against. I played a guy running a really fast Rakdos aggro deck with insane speed. I slaughter games'd his Stormbreath Dragons in game 2 and 3 which upset the balance because I was able to take care of his other threats early on. I actually played a Grixis mirror match because there was one other person playing the same color combination and it was a blast. Went to game 2 and pretty much wasted him. He was playing Ral Zarek which I don't feel is a strong contender but he was getting some benefits from it. I drew against Esper but ended up getting paired up which is where the win came from.
Notion Thief was great to board against rev decks. I contemplated Skullcrack but decided a creature going to the board was okay as well.
I think the deck worked so well because not that many people are playing Grixis in standard right now. It was a lot of fun.
Slaughter Games was good to board in against control mirrors as well. Doom Blade for more removal. Negate for more counter possibilities and thoughtseize to try and shut down any deck early on. I didn't board in Anger of the Gods the entire day which ended up being strange. Maybe I'll replace that with Skullcrack for more shutdown against other control decks.

How to Play

It's got some speed so it can be played at a moderate pace. Grixis control is, according to this deck, all about kill and burn spells to take out your opponents threats. Counter when you need to but be smart about it. Use Aetherling as a win con as well as Master. Jace is really great for slowing down damage coming at you or digging for more cards. No real need to ult him in this deck unless your boarding Games and want to ult for a Slaughter Games. It's pretty fun!
