Deck Description

I first started playing token decks back in Odyssey, and it is one of my oldest and favorite deck styles. Of course the game, and the deck have both evolved a lot since then. And while in Single player I often use control decks, this is my go to for multiplayer. This deck is great in mass multiplayer because while it is slow, it can escalate very quickly; meaning that you are often low priority, and by the time people catch on, it is much too late. If you have any card suggestions, or recommendations on improving the balance, your advice is appreciated. I am a long-time player, but I am hardly an expert, or fully aware of the current meta-game.

How to Play

Early Game:
If you enchant Dreampod Druid with Fist of Ironwood, then it will be producing a Saproling at the beginning of EVERY upkeep, not just your own (not to mention the trample and double Saprolings). The more players, the more upkeeps, the more absurd this can become. If you have him enchanted with Verdant Embrace, that number becomes two. You can already have several Saprolings on the field by the time that you play the truly powerful cards in this. I included Cultivate/Kodama's Reach to help get from three mana, to the five which are needed to start ending the game.

End Game:
At this point, there are a variety of five-mana cards at your disposal, primarily of interest is Mycoloth, Doubling Season, and Cathar's Crusade. Let us suppose you have Cathar's Crusade, and Doubling Season out. You play Mycoloth and sacrifice a mere four Saprolings. He comes into play with sixteen +1/+1 counters on him. The beginning of your next turn, he then puts out 32 Saprolings, AND places 64 +1/+1 counters on himself. The next turn, 160 Saprolings, placing 320 +1/+1 counters on Mycoloth AND all your other Saprolings. This becomes dangerous... fast. It gets even worse if you have multiples of any of these cards. (especially Doubling Season)

Support:
Obviously this deck does have its weaknesses, it has very few control or destroy cards. You are going to have to overwhelm your opponent with sheer numbers, not through well placed moves. Furthermore, since this is a creature heavy deck, you are going to be vulnerable to destroy and wipe effects; particularly devastating on a Mycoloth. No fear, I have tried my best to compensate for these flaws. Health; if you can get enough of it, it may help buy you time if something does go wrong or to get you through the early game. This is where Essence Warden and Folk Medicine (which has flashback!) come in. Next, pesky artifacts and enchantments; Aura Mutation and Aura Shards can be invaluable here. And then there are those flying monsters, or perhaps even unblockables? Eldrazi Monument and, especially for the later, Glare of Subdual can help stop your enemy in their tracks as long as you can outmatch them in monsters (it shouldn't be hard). And finally, board wipe and destruction... Three cards can stop this in its tracks. Endrazi Monument will make your creatures indestructible, paying one Saproling a turn is a small price. And then Privileged Position gives your side of the field shroud, so you don't have to worry about well placed exile spells or most destroy spells (for the most part). Finally, Sterling Grove lets you give Privileged Position shroud as well, making it very hard to destroy; with the added benefit of allowing you to tutor any enchantment of your choice! (Thus why Glare of Subdual and Aura Shards have only one copy; you can get them easy enough if you actually need them)

This is a powerful single-player deck, it has definitely won me many more games than it has lost; but it is not my strongest. However, it almost always wins in multiplayer!

Deck discussion for That Escalated Quickly

Have you considered Thallid or Sporesower Thallid? Best I got off the top of my head.

Yeah, I used to run Thallid Shelldweller in here; but I found that the Dreampod Druid was much more effective. I rarely got more than a single saproling from a thallid before they were no longer an important generator.

Yeah besides the big body it is slow. Life and Limb comes to mind when I see your Triumph of the Hordes.
