Deck Description

I thought of this deck while talking to my friends about /I/ actually loved Shadowmoor/Eventide, and how much I like hybrid CMCs. I was then challenged to build a deck based on that block and relate it back to a characteristic in the modern day meta; Devotion. I am aware that this is a very unique deck and there are not many (if any) Hybrid devotion decks out there, but overall this is a fun deck to play and play against and surely your opponent will be baffled until game two as to what exactly you're doing.

DECK DESCRIPTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CREATURES:
- Birds of Paradise - A bit self explanatory. A little ramp/acceleration. Just in the air. Neat.
- Dryad Militant - A good one drop that puts a little pressure on flashback/ instant and sorcery decks, all on a 2/1 stick, and Hybrid, too! Perfect!
- Kitchen Finks - My word. What fun these are. They immediately do some shaping to the board as well as give you some life, very useful.
- Oversoul of Dusk - Where do I even begin? Protection from all not green or white? Yes please. Also comes in as a 10/10 if you have Light From Within out.
- Primalcrux - New addition. Back in. I am very open to more win-cony creatures that fit the theme suggestions.
- Springjack Shepard - Pretty much the white Master of Waves with far less useful tokens. Unless you have Springjack Pasture or you just need a ton of chump blockers if they end up getting past your prisons.
- Nylea, God of the Hunt - Tramplely goodness. Often times a 6/6 indestructible for 4.
ENCHANTMENTS:
- Ghostly Prison - Cheap board stall is a lot of what this deck needs to make it to late game. I generally prefer this card for this deck over Sphere of Safety (Despite enchantments) because it's cheap and effect rather than effective and expensive.
- Light from Within - Just a change to make everything with hybrid a bit bigger. Including making your Oversoul a 10/10.
- Privileged Position - ALL THE HEXPROOF! And it's Hybrid! Awesome! (Even better when you have two out and now even your positions are hexproof).
- Sheild of the Oversoul- Primary target: Oversoul of Dusk. Flying? sure, love it. Indestructible? Yet again, amazing. Hexproof from other things in this deck? Call that combo a win-con.
OTHER SPELLS:
- Path to Exile - Control staple.
I am open to constructive criticism and would love to hear more feedback! Enjoy!
Deck discussion for Devotion to the Prius
Love the bit of GW devotion! Might wanna focus it a bit more and cut to 60 cards. perhaps cut all the Nykthos lands. They're great lands, but 10 dollars a pop and don't really fit the deck. You have a lot of mana, plus the birds of paradise, but not really anything I can see that you're ramping towards. Might want a bigger drop as a win-con. Also replace Ghostly prison with Sphere of Safety. You're running so many enchantments that the Sphere would be much more effective.
Perhaps I'll cut the Nykthos. During the play-tests it's done nothing but multiply mana and leaving me with excess, so you're right there. Originally i had Emrakul as a one-of win-con, but then i scrapped it for space reasons and I wasn't getting 15 mana quick enough for it to matter as much ( of course this was before the Birds of Paradise). Do you have a cheaper CMC win-con suggestion?
I think I'm going to keep ghostly prison in, though. Sphere of Safety is a 5 CMC, which in my opinion, is a bit too high and therefore, inferior to Ghostly Prison. Though the sphere would be more effective in the long-run, I mostly use the prison to protect from early game aggro to keep me alive into late game, because by then, I have a decent defense and can afford to take a few hits.
Thanks for all of the suggestions! I do appreciate it!
I like the idea but the deck is very unfocused. You should consider moving Leyline of Sanctity to the sideboard as you won't always be needing it, and instead run Nylea, God of the Hunt. Trample is incredibly good and this deck easily devotes her to be a 6/6 indestructible. I would say to cut Ghostly Prison, but I can tell you definitely want protection from early game aggro. Let me know how many mana symbols you usually accumulate in a game, because Aspect of Hydra could be a win con.
Thanks for the input and suggestions! I'm going to try those! I scrapped Primalcrux in place of Nylea, iI think it's a better choice. We'll see how this goes with the Aspect of Hydra. Doesn't sound too bad by ear, but we'll just have to see how it plays.
If Aspect doesn't work, definitely put Primalcrux back in. It's definitely a boss card.
Yeah, the aspect did not work out as well as we originally thought it would've. I've put Primalcrux back in and moved the Aspects to the SB temporarily.
I'm starting to think now though that I probably shouldn't run three of both Path to Exile and Oblivion Ring. I end up getting a tad overwhelmed with removal I don't really need. How would you suggest i remedy that situation? Do I keep one of them and just move to a playset and fill the extra spaces with more creatures? Or what do you think I should do?
Move the Oblivion Rings to the sideboard, keep the Path to Exiles in the main. Keep the deck focused but have some removal, some things you just can't get around. Oblivion Ring in the sideboard so when there is a noncreature permanent that you can't deal with your Oblivion Ring will deal with it. Qasali Pridemage can deal with artifacts and enchantments
Okay. Thanks for all help! How does it look now. I think it's starting to look slightly more focused, but there is something about the deck that I'm still not super sure about. Is there something else obvious that I'm missing?
Greater Auramancy with Privileged Position is a nice combo. Though, Idk how useful it'd be here.
You're right. It is a very nice combo. Though, because I don't have a lot of enchantments that need a whole lot of protecting, besides Privileged position, it would not very useful in here. Anywhere else though, it would be a a great combo! Especially in Enchantment run decks! Thanks for the feedback!
Yeah I didn't see it doing much good here either. I just enjoy that combo. Just another suggestion, though it'd be kinda rough, but Divinity of Pride over Primalcrux maybe? It'd cost five white here, but it'd work with Springjack Shepherd and Light from Within?
I could easily try it, though i'd like to keep it as G/W as possible. But i'm going to try it out and see how it goes and this deck sometimes need more lifegain thank just the Finks. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks!
