Bare with me, I'm going to walk through my thought process.

Leatherback Baloth is amazing, but for three green it's rare that he'd actually see turn three in this deck. Plus, with only a 4 power, he doesn't work with all the spells/abilities that require a 5 or greater target (like, well... Mayael) and, unlike Qasali Ambusher or any of the mana-producers, he's a vanilla creature with nothing to make him more than a body. Yeah, you can pump him, but if a creature can't do more than one thing right off the bat, what fun it that?

Looking now, while Elvish Piper is a NICE setup piece, she's easy to kill and you might just be left hanging. Genesis Wave could be sick, but you can only use it once and, like the Baloth, requires trip-green to run. So...

-Leatherback Baloth, +Green Sun's Zenith. It'll be easy to cast, you can search for everything you have, and it's reusable. :D It's worth losing a creature for something that makes it easier to bring everybody else out to play.

Elesh Norn might work to make already powerful creatures even more powerful, but only having 4 power herself, leaves it at an awkward place where you can't use Mayael to get her into play, so I'm not entirely sure on if it would work well in this deck. Also, sol ring is an amazing card in all formats it's unbanned in, and can fit into any EDH deck (replacing a basic land). Also, lightning greaves is pretty staple in EDH as well since if you can get it out, it protects your general from doom blade, go for the throat, and other spells of the like.

Just noticed something... is the rule on hybrid mana costs different than I thought? I was told that if the hybrid include a color not on your General than you couldn't use it. Might want to check on that because, if that's true, you need to replace Crystallization and Sangrite Backlash.

Also, Overwhelming Stampede would be hilarious in this deck. XD

....Damn, every time I come here, I want to build my own Mayael deck...
