Deck Description

you have plenty of hand hate for all of those combo decks goin around, as well as tons of removal and awesome creaches.

hexmages main is to beat out any plainswakers you don't want to have to deal with, plus the first strike is always good against the faster aggro decks.

Nighthawks are your way of gaining life, and they trade with anything without first strike.

Phyrexian Obliterator is the power behind the deck, there is no wall big enough for this guy, and you don't want to be blocking him any time soon. get him out and start swingin.

the vats are great in any matchups. if you get a hexmage under there, your opponent better not be playing any plainswalkers... because they are dead.

Deck discussion for Mono B Obliteration

looks great, i love Phyrexian Obliterator. I would almost want to add in some equipments to make your guys bigger. they will never want to block Phyrexian Obliterator, and you would gain more life with the nighthawk that way. just an idea...

take out 1 go for the throat, and 1 dismember. i think 4 of each is overkill

The swords are good for the Obliterator too. since nobody wants to block it, it will go off. If anyone has suggestions for mine, I'd love to hear it. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=186551

The spheres are there to accel into a turn 3 Obliterator? You could probably get away with only 20 land pretty easily. Maybe add more mimic vats just in case they have removal to answer your obliterator.

-4 land, +2 Mimic Vat, +2 Postmortem Lunge.

This would let you recur your Obliterators pretty easily when your opponent sends them to the graveyard with certain spells. You're just vulnerable to exiles at that point. Sideboard a couple Malakir Bloodwitches to swap with Obliterators to take care of that. If they have the tons of destruction spells maybe add some Phylactery Liches to swap with the obliterators. This way you're covered against damage(with Obliterators), exile(with Bloodwitch SB) and most kill spells(with the Lich SB or vats/lunge MB).

The deck is pretty simple and solid. I like it.

I would get rid of the spheres and the life's finale. they are slow and not worth it. try 4 dismember main.

hallo ive been playing alot of mbc since scars so afta looking at ur build my suggestion will be lashwrithe n nantuko shades if u r aiming agrro. Both are heavy hitter when u have loads of swamps. If u r going 4 controls then liliana n mind sludge is da best tool. N if u wanna go midrange try rager n corrupt. But seriously mbc had problem with drawing mech. Ive been brainstorming this issue 4 ages now. Without phyrexian arena mbc will not be tier-1 deck thats my oppinion.

Don't really need Go for the throat and dismember MB, do ya? Obliterator is your game ender so you gotta protect the investment. I'm telling ya, more vats and a couple lunges!

i disagree. lunges are very conditional, you need to have something in your graveyard to target. I think the vats are enough.

i would add lashwrithe, they are good on any creature. especially the Obliterators and Nighthawks.

THis is my Oblitorator deck. I like it bc there is a nice little combo with bloodghast into liliana's spector with birth pod and then pull out your oblitorator. Plus with bloodghast he never really dies and you get to keep the presure on them.

Please comment.

Hi overbeing :)

Great deck lol seems as if it would work perfectly...
The obliterators are so overpowered i cant wait to get my hands on a playset

Hopefully dark rituals will return to standard because a turn two obliterator would be prettynasty

And on another note...
Advertising your deck on every upcoming deck does not make zostimos happy braindamage

try 1-2 mindslavers, with them you can attack their creatures into your obliterator and sac what ever permanents they have. I think you can lose inquisition, but i'm not sure.... also, you can lose some of your removal for the beastly and awesome skinreder, if you can get him on a mimic vat, that would be insane....

good luck :)

Also, spellskite is a great way to freak out your opponent, in mono B there are little ways to get rid of your big obliterator, and with spellskite there are none :) another thought is phyrexian metamorph, another nice control card that goes in any deck

Hey Overbeing,
I love the deck! It looks like it has a lot of potential, but there are a few things that'd I'd change if it were mine.

Dismember is great, but not so much in mono black. I mean sure, 1 mana for -5/-5 is great and all, but i'd rather pay an extra B for Doom Blade or GFTT. The main reason Dismember is so great is because non-black or splash black decks can play it eastily. I would reccomend taking 2 Dismembers out for 2 Doom Blades.

In this format, Inquisition is a four-of. No questions asked. It takes : Sword of BnM, Sword of FnF, Sword of WnP, Deciever Exarch, Mana Leak, Stoneforge Mystic, Squadron Hawk, Lotus Cobra, and basically all the removal in the set. I'd recommend -2 despise, +2 Inquisition.

That's all I have. The deck looks great and I can't wait to see how mono black does in this format.
If you could take a look at my deck which is kind of similar, I'd really appreciate it!

I agree with Skinny on the dismember, they're not necessary in a mono black deck. It fits in a 2 or 3 colored deck in case you can't get a swamp for a GFTT or DB, but mono black doesn't have that problem.

This is a pretty nice deck, but it still needs more work in my opinion. The dmg and quick casts are there for a quick start, but the staying power fizzles rather quickly against what tourney people will eventually drop.

I could suggest things for you to swap out, but why don't I just list mine.... Check it out and tell me what you think...

why do you have infect in your deck. and your mana curve is way to high.

great deck but i have to disagree with dismember..i test it and go for the throat is way better..and maybe try considering postmortem lunge..just my two cents

I would squeeze in two or three Geth's Verdict. It takes care of those pesky indestructible, pro-black, and/or shroud creatures.

Great deck but with Vamps, kill cards, hand hate and obliterator it's sinful not to run blade of the bloodchief-very cheap way to get hexmage's and nighthawks up to 6-8 swinging power ;) check out my vamp deck if you will for more of what I'm talking about!

Geth's Verdict is better than Gatekeeper of Malakir, unless you find yourself with a need for blockers, but with this deck you should be killing every creature they play before they have a chance to attack

I would have more kozilek rather then dispise. Your worst enemy is creature hate unless you have the mimic vat out. So you need to get rid of go for the throat, dispatch, dispence justice, black sun, anything with infect, beast within... see my point? Heck against my white deck you would have to deal with creature delay in the form of excommunicate and oust.

So I would rather have more kozilek and a few extractions to solve nasty problems like that.
