Deck Description

A hard-aggression, creature-based scavenge deck.

How to Play

For the most part, the sooner you play it - the better.

Exceptions include Gravecrawlers and Kalonian Tuskers, as these are often better used in a discard fashion with Lotleth Troll, then scavenged using Varolz.

If you can't punch through your opponent's defensive line, use Jarad and sacrifice several big baddies to finish your opponent off.

Sideboard out Putrefy for whatever counters your opponent's strategy.

Deck discussion for Scavenged Supremacy

instead of Lay of the land, you could use Dawntreader Elk, you can block with it then sacrifice it so it negates the attack and place a land in the battlefield. Also you can scavenge it after from the graveyard

coldbeer is right, that's a good idea. i would also like to see 4 slitherheads, they are pure value and, as zombies, help you cast the gravecrawlers.

Slitherhead is useless. You would rather have a good card in its stead than a little snake that does nothing.

they're actually very useful. They help you cast gravecrawlers, you can chump with them, discard them to lotleth troll and then scavenge for two counters. i never regret having them in a deck, at least as long as the deck is any kind of aggressive. if you are going for midrange or late game they lose value but they really are valuable one drops. i'd rather have one of them than a lay of the land or elixir of immortality

Scavenge for 1 counter - slitherhead is a 1/1.

As a choice between a 2/1 that I can scavenge for 2 counters OR replay from my graveyard, or a 1/1 that I can scavenge for free, I'll gladly take the 2/1.

Lay of the Land helps to filter the remaining cards in the deck, making it more likely to continue getting playable cards rather than land I may or may not need, and elixir of immortality is in my sideboard.

discard to the troll for one counter, scavenge for one. when i play grisly salvage or mulch i like slitherheads because they just end up being free value. i didn't say replace gravecrawler, obviously it's better. i understand if you don't want to put it in, i just was pointing the card out. if you don't like it, don't put it in.

also, if you're trying to use these with varolz, don't you want 4 copies of him?

4 copies of varolz is overkill for what the deck needs to do; with 4 Grisly Salvage and 2 Jarad's Orders, it really shouldn't be a problem to get Varolz into play.

Well since you don't have Slitherheads, I can see that you clearly are skilled enough to see the fact that slitherhead is bad card. Yeah good amount of mana, good creatures... I would maybe add 4 doom blades because its the best removal

Thanks for all the comments!

The Dawntreader Elk is a good idea! I think I might try that out, thanks for suggesting it. My only worry is that it exchanges a possible first turn play for a second turn play.

I considered Slitherhead when I built the deck originally, but in this deck style, they're useless; I'm not really trying to replay the Gravecrawlers, they're mostly scavenge fodder once Varolz is in play; and creatures with an actual scavenge aren't that useful compared to Varolz giving a 2/1 scavenge for 1.

Doom blade is... ok, but putrefy gives more versatility with some artifact removal as well as no color restrictions on the creature to be destroyed.

If you don't plan to recast gravecrawler you could use Dryad Militant, it's 2/1 for CMC 1, you have more green land(easier to cast turn 1), it can block and it's a lot cheaper

Doom blade is ok in sideboad when you know you dont play vs black, but in the main deck it's not worth it. Like you said putrefy is much better

I would still go with the Elk, but otherwise Caravan Vigil is better then lay of the land since it has a morbid effect

Thanks for the feedback.

I prefer to keep the Gravecrawler for the reason that it offers the replayability option if Varolz isn't available to give it scavenge; discarding it to Lotleth and casting it right after is an effective early strat.

However, I playtested the Dawntreadyer Elk today and found it lacking; it opens up a vulnerability window if you drop it on turn 2, and you may lose your land draw altogether. I think overall the Caravan Vigil is the way to go here; good suggestion.

After some playtesting, I re-added the 4 Kalonian Tuskers to the deck; they're just too good.

Either cast them for early-game pressure, or, if you have Varolz in play, discard them to Lotleth Troll for counters then scavenge them for more cheap counters.
