Cool deck, brings back memories when I ran something awfully similar.I would replace the guilgates for twilight mire. Helps keep your rhythm without having to waste a turn because the gate comes into play tapped.

I never understood that card; Wouldn't a normal Forest or Swamo produce a type of mana, and you would still leave one untapped?
At first I didn't either.Basically, tapping a B or G along with twilight mire can filter it in to any sequence of golgari colors (BB, GB, GG). It's easier for players to cast double B spells like Bloodghast or even double G like Strangleroot Geist.
If you don't mind going Vintage, adding phyrexian dreadnought would be a sick combo in the yard for Varolz.
I'd prefer to keep it Modern- Standard, Legacy, and Vintage are too expensive for me. EDH doesn't appeal to me, and I have no idea what Extended is. So, I prefer to stay with Modern. :)

Thanks! It also works with Lotleth Troll like this--Have Corpsejack Menace, Lotleth Troll, and Varolz out (not that hard)-Discard Death's Shadow for +2/+2 on the troll-Scavenge for {B}, and that gives +26/+26 on the troll-Glaring Spotlight/ Rogue's Passage the 30/29 with trample and regenerate-win
Also, if you don't draw spotlight or rogue's, the Korozda Guildmage can make the Lotleth and assasins get intimidate, and regen them if they get buttfucked
You'll have to take out deathrite believe he is banned now but golgari charm would work well in this to either regen your creatures or kill off someone ones like slitherhead if you can't discard him I used commune with the gods as well and whip of ebros to bring shit back
