Deck Description

After I decide what gets cut out of the main board, Murderous Cut will be a 2-of in the main. I don't know if I need that many Banishing Light or Hero's Downfall, and I want to see the effect of Crackling Doom and Deflecting Palm.

How to Play

Mardu control deck once Khans is released. May change depending on what else is spoiled.

The basic idea is to start off disrupting your opponent's hand with Thoughtseize by taking his/her biggest threat, then keep the board clear as you land planeswalkers to mop them up. Elspeth and Sarkhan do double duty in helping control the board state.

After game 1, sideboard as necessary. Butcher of the Horde and Goblin Rabblemaster are crazy good together and can be easily cast in this deck. A good way to throw a midrange deck off balance when they side out most of their removal.

Any feedback/suggestions are welcome!

Deck discussion for No-Creature Control

I really like this idea! I was thinking of a similar deck, but maybe with a bit less mass destruction (3 anger + 4 stop hostilities might be 1 or 2 too many, but maybe it's not. Depends on how you play it.)

I do think that this deck needs a few more finishers, even though it really hates creatures. If you don't pick up your planeswalkers, or if your opponent destroys them with a Heroes' Downfall or some burn, you're really not gonna win.

I would at least take the Exiles out of the main deck and put them in the sidebord (maybe even switch them for a Deicide). Maybe 2 extra deflecting palm in the sideboard if you play versus burn of some extra burn for direct damage it the opponent doesn't play many creatures.

As for a finisher: I think Stormbreath Dragon would fit in the deck. Mogis might also do the job quite well. It will damage your opponent and survive all mass-destruction.

Just some quick ideas - I'd like to know how you think about it :)

Thanks for the feedback! I have it set this way to see what works and what doesn't. I'm planning on seeing a lot of Jund walkers, big creatures, and some quick small creatures (Rabblemaster) the next few weeks. I will probably remove some of the creature-only removal, or possibly the Banishing Lights to the sideboard in favor of more threats. 4 winning threats in the main and 2 more in the sideboard seems good enough for control with this much removal. I'm hesitant to use a creature as a winner unless it has some serious evasion. Planeswalkers give me much more utility as a threat/board clearer imo.

Not bad so far, very creature specific. You can run Stain the Mind in Side against walker or other control decks. Take out their wincons which are typically very few of and they are out of luck. Have you thought of Ob Nixilis?

Wow I hadn't thought of Ob Nixilis... great sideboard cards (especially against fetch lands). I plan on reducing the overall creature removal and leaning on Banishing Light, Hero's Downfall, Despise, and Thoughtseize to get rid of pesky walkers. I have a feeling that will be enough. Only one way to find out! I'm not completely sure if Rabblemaster is where I want to be, however Ob Nixilis could very well be what I want. I'll have to see how the first few FNM's go. Thanks for the input!

At least toss him in sideboard and a possible one of in the deck. If he does come out, he is a big threat. Rabblemaster will die to anger of the gods keep that in mind. I would do 2 Ob Nixilis and a liliana Vess in SB. If you're able to get her ultimate, it will be game with the amount of removal you would be doing to that point. Or maybe add in more Deflecting Palms for Burn deck matchups.
