Deck Description

This is an modern Legacy update on an old demented deck I used to play.

Its pretty straight forward deck based on Death Ptis of Rath and Pestilence combo.

Death Pits of Rath
Enchantment, 3BB (5)
Whenever a creature is dealt damage, destroy it. It can't be regenerated.

Pestilence
Enchantment, 2BB (4)
At the beginning of the end step, if no creatures are on the battlefield, sacrifice Pestilence.
{B}: Pestilence deals 1 damage to each creature and each player.

If you use Pestilence while Deaths Pits is in play all destructible creatures are destroyed with no possibility of regeneration. With indestructible creatures or creatures that can be recursed from graveyar then pestilence may be kept in play.

1. Use Dark Ritual and Culling the Weak to get out Pestilence and Death Pits of Wrath fast
2. Put a Sadistic Glee on one of the Darksteel creatures
3. Use Pestilence to make Darksteel creature get more powerful
4. Use Simulacrum to avoid damage and gain life
5. Use Tortured Existence for recursion from graveyard
6. Unless opponent has bigger darksteel creatures and graveyard removal you should win.

I would add barbed foliage, Caltrops, Circle of Flame, Extra Arms, and a few other cards to the deck personally but I play legacy.

interesting; might want to work the card debtor's knell into this deck. then some damnation for board clears

Hmm, yes debtor's knell is nice but a little costly at 7 mana (looks like a nice card to get out with an Academy Rector) still taking control of creature's in opponent's graveyard and helping recurse Abyssal Gatekeeper makes it a very nice card. What to take out is a difficult problem may be Add 1 debtor's knell and add 1 simulacrum.

Yes, damnation is an excellent card in most any black deck. But only protection from black and indestructible creatures can survive the combo and I believe my indestructible sadistic glee creatures will be much bigger than any creature my opponent will have out by the time my combo goes off. And recursing Abyssal Gatekeeper (due to use of Tortured Existance) should be able take out any protection from black or indestructible creatures for me. Still if you are really concerned about protection black creatures or indestructible creatures may be take out 1 endless cockroach and 1 culling the weak and add 2 Damnations, but doing so you will slow the deck and weaken the joy of pumping the sadistic glee.

Remember each time you pestilence the cockroaches die and return to hand so if you have 5 mana available and have 1 cockroach out you can pestilence for 1, cast roach, pestilence for 1 cast, cast roach, pestilence for 1 thus pumping the sadistic glee by +3, along with killing all non-protection from black creatures and any destroyable creatures thrice over and do 3 damage to opponent
and possibly to self (but not nessessarily if you have simulacrum to use) and you still haven't yet attacked with what is at minimum to be a 5/5 sadistic Glee creature, but is more likely to be a 9/9 or greater creature

Hi greg5605,

Thanks for the input. This deck is really just for casual group games. The painful quandry is an interesting idea. I mostly run 4 wastelands because in group games I often see alot of Maze of iths Mystifying Mazes, Tolarian Islands, and other broken lands.
