Deck discussion for Legacy Mono Black Deck

Which way are you looking to take the deck? Control, extraction, burn, creature-based. I've got some ideas for burn. I made a black burn for the out of color challenge.

Hi CommCzech,

Well the deck as it is currently is heavy hand destruct and creature control. The question is what do you think is more effective an addition. Let me spell it out

The deck could use the blood ghast or nether traiter to to help pay for buy back of cabal therapy.
Dark Confidant helps with card draw but "Bob" is risky card to use with 4 Obliterators in the deck.

Hypnotic Spector gives it the best discard creature in the Magic and reinforces the discard theme. The problem is there is an awful amount of ways neutralize it as a threat in legacy format.

Surgical extraction take advantage of all the discard in the deck but it typically won't win a game outright
by itself with it being the only extraction in the deck.

Demon Lord of Asmouth is great creature but the deck would need add more creatures to support it.

Diety of Scars is a great creature almost as good as Obliterator. Still 5 mana is bit a much for what is effectively a 5/5 trampler that may regenerate if you have enough mana. The problem is there isn't a whole alot of mana in this deck.

Demigod of Revenge is the card I like most for this deck. I could use some of my hand discard cards (especially smallpox) to put a Demigod of Revenge into the graveyard that way if I manage to cast another Demigod of Revenge I could be an attack for 10 hasted flying damage. Problem is most good Legacy decks now sport some graveyard remove sideboard and even in mainboard. The best part about
Demigod of Revenge is if it is countered *before* its triggered ability resolves, the ability will still resolve. In fact, it will return that Demigod of Revenge from your graveyard to the battlefield, as well as any others!!!!

Vengeful Pharaoh is an interesting card again like Demigod Revenge it often is most useful when it is in the graveyard and like Demigod of Revengemost good Legacy decks now sport some graveyard remove sideboard and even in mainboard.

Grave Titan this is an awesome card but like Diety of Scars mana could be a problem. But I like it just a little more than Diety of Scars because it has death touch and it make tokens that could fuel a cabal therapy buy back.

Bloodgift Demon is very good card. In some ways even better than Dark Confident as card draw will only cost 1 life if you target yourself. Its 4 toughness is its only weakness. There are a suprisingly large number of ways to kill 4 toughness creatures in Legacy. Dismember being the current most popular.

Head Games and Mind Sludge are great screw you cards if only they didn't cost so much mana. Also if the deck is working properly the low cost hand destruct should of already done most of what these cards may do if they get successfully cast. The real problem with these cards is they don't win the game by themselves.

Finally, Tombstalker this is the traditional go to creature for Legacy Black. Often can get out for 2 mana using delve ability. I was hoping someone might suggest something better than this.

So there you have my arguements. I think I'll add 4 Demigod of Revenge. What do you think, am I missing something?

Well there's a few routes you could go.

Big Creature
Sheoldred+Evil Presence and Demigod

Hand destruction/Burn
Sign in Blood
Mind Sludge
Mental Agony
Geth's Verdict -Innocent Blood

Creatures
Grave Titan
Demonlord

Hey CommCzech,

As you see I went with "semi-big" creature route. Thanks for the suggestions.

Now I need to work on a sideboard.

What is the deck actually going to be for? Casual or Competitive play? If it's casual, I'd assume that you'd be putting it up against newer decks. Competitive, I can't really help. I only started playing with Innistrad and more current sets.
