Deck Description

Turn One Kill

Cast Glimpse of Nature then cast a bunch of zero casting cost creatures and then grapeshot opponent to death (if possible cast Chalice of Void with zero counters just before using Grapeshot to prevent or use up zero casting cost counter spells by opponent)

Street wraith's should help you get over any bumps on the road to victory.

Glad you like the use Chalice of Void. I also put it to similiar use to prevent countering of combos in my legacy land destruct deck Bye Bye Land Deck

There we go. I've been trying to put together a deck like this for about a month now. Nicely nicely nicely done.

i love this deck idea. ive seen one like it, but the only problem is that if you play chalice the void early on, it "counters" all card that come into play. So all the cards your countering, wont go towards grapeshot at all cause it says copy for every spell played before, countering makes it so those spells never come into play at all. the black creature is a great help to the deck idea. but i would try another way.

The wording for Grapeshot is

Grapeshot
Sorcery, 1R (2)
Grapeshot deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
Storm (When you cast this spell, copy it for each spell cast before it this turn. You may choose new targets for the copies.)

The question is: Is a spell that is cast by player, but later countered count towards being a spell that was cast.

I would argue it counts because the exact wording is "for each spell cast" it doesn't say for each spell played. But I bow before who ever knows what is Wizards of the Coast judges ruling is. Anyone know?

Grapeshot
deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
Storm (When you play this spell, copy it for each spell PLAYED before it this turn. You may choose new targets for the copies.)

bc this card says PLAYED not cast the combo you are trying to do here will not work do to the fact that Chalice of the Void is countering them and they are never being PLAYED

the judge has spoken lol

"Played" and "Cast" are the same exact thing! "Cast" is simply just the new word that came with the Magic 2010 set rules changes. Similar to "In Play" and "the Battlefield." However, the spell is still cast, even if it is countered. The difference is that the spell being cast perhaps did not "Resolve." This means that while your creatures never enter the "Battlefield," they are cast, but then countered. Thus, you will both draw a card from Glimpse of Nature and up your storm count by one for every creature you try casting, even if it is countered. If you don't belive me about the "played" and "cast" issue, look up the magic home page, click into the gatherer and look up Grapeshot. You'll notice that the official ruling (the Oracle text) actually says "Cast."

Also, for another example of this weird occurence, look at creatures with the cascade ability such as Bloodbraid Elf. When you "Cast" it, even it if is countered, you may still cascade into a card and "Cast" it.

Hope that helped solve this issue.:)

Wow I copied and paste tthe text for the card from a Magic Card Database see
http://magiccards.info/query?q=grapeshot&v=card&s=cname and it clearly says cast
but I didn't look at the visual image of the card which clearly says played. Thanks for input.

The chalice of the void is still useful if cast just before casting grapeshot as means to prevent opponent from countering grapeshot.

The Multani's presence is also still useful as means to help prevent opponent from interferring
with casting of creatures.

But sadly the multani's presence + chalice of the void combo is dead.

See my above comment ^^. Multani's Presence + Chalice combo is quite alive!

Also, since you basically draw your deck anyways, just 1 or 2 Grapeshot is more than enough to win the game. Any more is just going to lead to bad draws.

Yeah!!!!!! for Edna,

Here is official Orcle text for grapeshot taken from http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?type=+[Grapeshot]||subtype=+[Grapeshot]||text=+[Grapeshot]

Grapeshot (2)
Sorcery

Grapeshot deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
Storm (When you CAST this spell, copy it for each spell CAST before it this turn. You may choose new targets for the copies.)

Thanks for your input. Glad to learn that Multani's Presence + Chalice combo is quite alive!

Sorry crankimpulse it looks like you're wrong even though the actual card says Played the official text
says Cast.

Here is an interactive website, where you can change the card mix of a similar deck, and see the statistical chance for winning on round 1.
