Deck Description

Went to FNM(november 30th) in Vien, Austria...

1st round: Rakdos aggro/control... 2-0

2nd round: Jund midrange... 2-0

3rd round: Azorius control... 2-0

4th round: R/B/W reanimator... 2-0

5th round: Grixis control... 2-0

6th round: Bant control/midrange... 2-0

Final round: Grixis control... 2-0

Finished: I forgot... :)

Friend toke it today(november 9th) to another FNM in Gyor, Hungary...

1st round: Jund Zombies... 2-0

2nd round: Jund Midrange... 2-0

3rd round: R/B/W Reanimator... 2-0

4th round: Jund Midrange... 2-0

5th round: Bant Control... 2-0

6th round: B/G/U Zombies... 2-0

Final round: Bant Control... 2-0

Finished: ...I won't tell you... :)

Went to FNM - Budapest, Hungary(october)...

1st round: Naya aggro/populate... 2-0

2nd round: B/G/U Zombies... 2-0

3rd round: Bant Populate... 2-0

4th round: Grixis control... 2-0

5th round: Jund aggro... 2-0

Final round: Bant control/tokens - populate... 2-0

Finished: 1st :)

Standard(2012. october)... R/U/W control...

Again... ...thanx for front page everyone!.. :)

Suggestions?..

The only card I considered & didn't put in is Izzet Charm... I'd use 2 of it & may be 1 more in the sideboards, but it won't help too much... May be just 2 in the sideboards... ...but I can't take out a thing... What would U do??.....

Thundermaw in the sides, because if I get hit by 2 Slaughter Games, than I'd have only Bonfire & 1 Niv as finisher, so I needed another option... ...& it's also good against spirits & stuff...

Gisela is for having an additional late - game finisher & she reduces the damage I & my creatures take as well... She is a life - saver & a killer... :)

great control deck. I think this set up is enough.

This deck is scary. I've played against a similar deck that used Tamiyo and Jace Architect of Thought, but I dunno if they would be useful to you or not.

Thought of them... ...considered many times, but no space for tham, as I see it now...

Cut the index and 1-2 of your board sweeps for tamiyo/Jace

0

I need Index to make both my draw & miracle spells much - much effective... It's essential...

I could drop maximum 1 sweep... ...May be for 1 Tamiyo... ...but not for sure...

Tamiyo is awesome with Feeling of Dread...

the way the version of this deck that the pro magic players play is just draw cards every turn anyways, so index is not needed.

They will have their way... ...& I will have mine... :)

I know for a fact, that I'm doing it better... ...for this deck at least...

Index is assisting even the instant draw spells... ...you know when to draw a 2nd card in a turn without drawing into a miracle...

This deck is highly different than what the pro-s play, so the need of cards is different as well...

Think about this: Hayne won a pro - tour with a deck that could be beaten by a single Surgical Extruction, or Memoricide that time... He wasn't prepared for quite some things... ...& he's a pro...

I'd like to show you the deck I ran most of the time, in the previous standard period...

It was inspired by Hayne's Halleluyah, however it's highly different... It has won me 12 FNM-s in 5 different locations of 2 different countries (no game-loss in first 7 FNM-s) & a Grand Prix in Austria... :)

You might have seen it before... ...U/W/R/G Miracle control("Havenfire"): http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=343423

if you say so, I'm not trying to argue the fact that this deck is good, of course it is, it's meat and bones are a very well known deck archetype for this period in standard. Might be a little conceited to claim you're doing it better all things considered, quality of competition etc.

I would drop some of the Saints and replace with Talrand, Sky Summoner, Saint is bad on defense and is too easy for a creature deck to block/kill when he doesn't have much support. Talrand can make your draw and dig spells into evasive creatures to finish or chump block until you get bonfire or entreat the angels.

Very strong deck overall though.

1
Posted 29 October 2012 at 03:24

By Cyclonic Rift & Azorius Charm, I can get Geist's blockers out of the way & save it...

Mizzium Mortars & Bonfire are also good for the same goal...

Talrand & his tokens would've been taken out by my own mass removal spells...

Anywayes... ...thanks for your suggestions!.. :)

Ah, i have to admit i didnt think about being able to bounce Saint before removal but that Talrand's tokens dont bounce. Still, i dont think u need the full set of saints.

SOOOO MANY BOARD WIPES!! Good god sir, you have what appears to be 13 board wipes.

I wouldn't use supreme verdict, instead I would drop that for the 4th terminus and a 3rd bonfire.

I would drop Inaction Injuction for a 3rd think twice and a 4th Feeling of Dread.

I would drop izzet charm for another mizzium mortars.

Basically just focusing the deck more specifically so you can more consistently rely on what your going to draw. Also I just don't like Supreme Verdict in the face of terminus or bonfire, each seems to be the better board wipe. Sideboard them maybe if your going up against another control which will counter either of the other board wipes.

The board wipes are working perfectly right now... :)

I run a 2nd Mortars in the sideboards, but I just might drop Izzet Charm... Originally, I didn't use it, only 2 Mortars in the main deck...

I think I'm gonna' take your advice & drop Inaction for a 4th Dread & 3rd Twice... Way better this way... I donno', why I didn't do that...

Verdict is better, when you draw it & you don't need it that turn... ...so I split them 50-50... Seems the best this way...

Thanx for the feedback!..

What would your version be like?..

Will you run Pillar?..

I ran 3 in the sideboards originally, than only 2, than I realized, that I don't need it, since Zombie & "Undying" is not a threat... I have Terminus, Detention Sphere, Dissipate, Feeling of Dread, Cyclonic Rift, Azorius Charm & Rest in Peace to deal with zombie, "Undying" & other sort of grave decks...

Cyclonic Rift & Azorius Charm is also a good combo with Dissipate & Nevermore... :)

Nevermore is basically for Slaughter Games... ...but I can have 5 types of finishers in my deck at once, so it's not a big threat anyway... May be if I've got hit by 3 or 4 of it... ...but I can still win from there... :)

Will you run Jace, Architect of Thoughts &/or Tamiyo?..

Will you play Izzet Charm?..

Going nuts with board wipes. The only things that I can think of are pointless as you would just kill the creatures yourself. Take a look at my counters deck, 81/81 Daggerdrome Imp, if you get the chance.
I've only been playing for a couple weeks and I would like some advice on it from just about anyone who knows the game fairly well.

(For some reason it won't let me post the link with phone)

Thanks!.. :)

Honestly, I haven't brought a single card individually... I have a huge collection of cards, so those, who play rather modern &/or legacy, than standard are trading with me all the time...

Also, when a new set comes out, I alwayes buy a set discography(50 boosters) for the prize of 16...

It costs 20.000 hungarian forints(about 92$) & I have a 20% discount at a store, so I pay 16.000 forints wich is only 74$...

50 booster packs for only 74$... I've got 4 Jace, Architect of Thoughts from that this month... ...& that itselfe values around 185$... :)

I'm playing & building since November 1999(I was 9 at the time)... ...so I don't have problem getting cards... :)

This deck looks amazing to me. I love control with destroying the board and then coming back to big flyers. If I had the cash I'd build this deck. Specially with geist of saint traft. Another solid but pricey build.

Between the Denomic brilliance and this I would pick this! It looks like one of them eck where I would want to slap you everytime I played it! (which is good, not so much for me!)

Like the amount of hate in the deck, not a lot I can offer to improve tbh man!

Very nice deck, and I congrat you on how well you did with your 4 decks this week at FNM. You seem like a very knowledgable person and very good at making persistantly good decks. If you have time could you check out some of my newly made standard decks? I just started getting back into the game not long ago and first time getting back into FNM/Tournement play in over 7 years (I'm a little rusty haha). Good luck to you in all your future endevors!

I love the deck! Very cool! A few questions for you.

Do you find yourself with a couple Geist of Saint Traft in your hand limiting you from playing more?

Do you end up losing a lot of life due to your lands?

Why have you gone from using Thought Scour in previous control decks to using think twice?(Detention, Destruction & Judgement http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=392017 )

In what situations do you bring in Gisela and the Detention Spheres?

I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions ,but hopefully my questions will spark ideas! Thanks!

I like your comments, 'cuz you alwayes have points & it seems you are truely interested in quite some parts of both the built & playing strategy... :)

I run lots of wipes, so it's not a problem having 2-3 of the same legendary creature in hand... ...& I play quite some draw spells, so I alwayes have enough spells & lands to play... :)

...in a control deck, it's not essential to have your lands enter untapped... ...it's usually not required to take adventage of the flow of the deck... ...8 shocks is not that much anywayes... ...those few lives won't decide the game anyway... ...& the most life I've lost dou to my lands is 4 in a game...

...Thought Scour is only worth with Noxious Revival & Miracles & Revival is out of standard now... ...Think Twice is much expensive, but able to give you 2 cards as an instant & with 9 miracles mainboard & 2 in the sideboards, it's essential... ...Scour was also great with Surgical Extraction, but it's also out now :( ...

I need Gisela, when the opponent playes 4 Slaughter Games & may be some Snapcaster with it (I need an extra possible finisher)...

I use Detention Sphere, when I'm facing a reanimator deck, or tokens, may be a deck that playes many planeswalker...

...mentioning Scour, Revival, Miracles & Extraction, here is the deck I ren in the previous standard period for most of the time(12 FNM & 1 Grand Prix victories) :) : http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=343423

Have you considered using Chandra to double up on the spells like Sphyx's Revelation, Entreat and the board wipes? Couldn't she be used to copy board wipes and then get rid of Thragtusk and other cards that leave a creature behind?

0
Posted 04 December 2012 at 02:13

...when you copy a spell with X in it's mana coast, you'd need to play the X part of it a 2nd time, so it's useless...

...when you copy a wipe, the copy resolves the same time as the original spell, so it won't take out the Thragtusk token...

...I have lots of control, so creatures doesn't matter 1 bit... ...the only spell that could weaken this deck is Slaughter Games & I've prepared the deck against that very well, so it's not too much of a threat any more...

0
Posted 04 December 2012 at 11:09

That leaves me very confused after reading the linked article. He did a lot of those shenanigans with Chandra at the tournament he played in.
I have only been really playing for a year now and I am just recently trying to get into Standard since a friend of mine is running a card shop now. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!!!

1
Posted 04 December 2012 at 20:26

...than there wasn't a worthy judge at the tournament... ...at incompetative FNM-s, it happens... ...when you copy a spell, you copy only the spell & nothing else you do with it, like how much you play on it's X & stuff... ...it also resolves as you cast the original spell, so a wipe-copy effects the same creatures as the original spell.......

0

Okay, so I looked into it on Gatherer,
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=259205
It says that the X would have the same value but you cant add to that value at that time! That sounds awesome!! How do you think that affects the use of Bonfire vs. Devil's Playground in this deck?

It says that when the spell is created from the (-2) abilities trigger that it goes on the
stack. So if you did the (-2), then Supreme Verdict, the second Supreme Verdict goes on the stack.

Assuming nothing happens, the First one resolves and kills the Thragtusk and his ability creates the token, then the second one resolves and kills the Token. Is that wrong?
