Deck discussion for EDH Relentless Rats

I haven't actually played this deck yet, but I have high hopes. Lots of graveyard recursion and a little bit of black countering to help against board sweepers. The 'Dread' is in there to help with milling, but it will fail if you're drawing 2 cards a turn from the Arena or the Mine, and our group runs a lot of Mines so I am probably going to switch out with Kozilek. Still, it would be awesome to be milled for 700+, then have Dread hop back into the library to give you that one draw to kick the miller with his pants down, esp. if you have a gy emptier in hand.

Okay dude, I've had much more experience with EDH than I did before when I mouthed off with my noob comments. I've even posted a couple here and made a few in person.

I would say drop Dregs of Sorrow in favor of Grave Pact, this will ensure that you get the most out of your sacrificing, and will drop your opponent's creatures pretty fast. Also, Butcher of Malakir wouldn't be bad either.

In all honesty, you can drop a lot of your board wipes, maybe put in something like Living Death, but otherwise if you're making your things unblockable you shouldn't care care what your opponents have. Perhaps you should look more into low cost spot removal to get rid of specific threats. But otherwise if they have a few black creatures, then it doesn't matter if they block some of your powerful rats, or you can just sac your rats with Grave Pact and/or Butcher down using your general.

You can also probably drop in Necropotence to fix your draw troubles, as well as some other smaller draw cards like Sign in Blood. There's a lot of good black and artifact draw out there.

You should drop your big artifacts that ramp up your mana and buff your creatures in favor of cards like Dark Confidant and Dark Tutelage, after all you will be running very light on cards that cost more than 3. Getting some lifelink would be good as well. Perhaps Basilisk Collar and Luxodon Warhammer? And similar equipment. Load those up on your buffed Rats and swing away.

Lastly, if you put in the Tutelage and Confidant, you probably want Sensei's Divining Top and Crystal Ball, as well as other scry enablers.

Thornbite Staff would also be very nice to drop onto your general if you put in some additional sac engines like Sadistic Hypnotist and Phyrexian Tower, just sacing one of your many rats.

In fact, with that staff on your genral and Sadistic Hypnotist down, you will have infinite 1/1s..

Just sac a rat with your general, get a bunch of 1/1 tokens, sac one of them to the Hypnotist, untap your general and repeat.

Also you can use Mycosynth Lattice and Grinding Station to get an infinite mill engine running. Drop the Alter of Dementia for this. :3

Thanks for putting this build up, it made me see what I wanna do with all my Relentless Rats and took me in a direction for my RR EDH deck.

"This card's text does not override other format-imposed restrictions on the number of cards. For example, in a Highlander format, you would still only be allowed one Relentless Rat."

It honestly depends on the group you play with, my local store owner doesn't care about that ruling and said that we could use as many Relentless Rats as we want.

But yes, official ruling is that you can only use one.

Its also worth noting that EDH wasn't an official format when they made that ruling, and that they did tell us to look at the official EDH site for rulings rather than them.

consider using Balthor the Defiled for your commander. Also, consider a Life Chisel for more hijinks. Mine has every Tutor that I could get my hands on, plus any card that has a tutor-like ability - like Rune Scarred Demon.

Really great concept!! Unfortunately, you can only have one Relentless Rat in EDH. That is the official ruling. But im sure as long as your playing with friends they wont care :)

Yaaaaaaaaaawn. This is all I have to say about this deck. There's no clever tricks. There's no cool combos and all you do is play the same card over and over again. Makes for a very boring EDH game.

Also easily broken so that you don't enjoy the game with any number of extraction cards. (Surgical Extraction, Memoricide, Haunting Echos. List goes on)

however, it does make for a good introduction to EDH. I prefer others, but I still carry my variant around to introduce young players to EDH.

I would changed Gauntlet of Power and swap in Caged Sun as the former also helps your opponents creatures and mana ramp. Also I would change your lands to Snow Covered Swamps for the very same reason with Extraplanar Lens.

I would suggest that you just stick to the strategy of the rats and remove anything that doesn't go with that. If a deck can't win at its own game, it isn't worth playing. i have a relentless rats deck, too. I learned really quick that the only thing you need is relentless rats, coat of arms, and creature destruction. Don't worry about playing defense. If you do the deck right, by fifth turn, you can have five 6/6's on the field. That is just scary.

Yeah, I can agree with you there, but it's still a risk.
But.....I have to side to with some saying that this deck would be very vulnerable.
Cards like Echoing Truth, Surgical Extraction etc. would RAPE this deck idea.
Anyways, good luck.

Any chance you could help me with this?

Every deck has a weakness. If you try to cover too many, you will lose the point of the deck. Might as well run stall at that point.
