Ok, may be a stupid question, but doesnt the paying of the life for Unspeakable symbol count as a loss of life and therefore HURT more than help?

No. Transcendence only makes you gain life when you lose life, and damage causes loss of life. Paying life as a cost doesn't count.

It's not house rules. It's how the game works.
