Deck Description

Just before many major events our local playgroup has a draft made up of all the junk rares collected over the years by one of our group; over decades of play and 1000's of packs getting rares that are unplayable or getting more than 4 of a rare is inevitable; and so these unloved cards return to be played once more!

So this is what I got today; I named it due to Whelming Wave which as you may see if you follow the link: http://www.mtgvault.com/runningpigeon/decks/junk-draft-1-20032015/ is a card I ran in the last junk draft.... Junk Draft 2: Return of the Waves - Undying Tide!

If you fancy a read I sure you'll see a card you've never considered or even heard of that will be the perfect missing piece to that deck you're building!

.......then again maybe you won't..... because they're junk rares...... and they're terrible..... BUT FUN TO PLAY!

How to Play

The were an interesting combos here in the form of milling 42 cards;10 from Mindercrusher, 4 from Mindseeker repeated twice more via Whelming Wave also Wave proved its worth again in conjuction with Shipbreaker; clear the board with Wave then swing for 6 and frequently follow up with Cryptborn, you end up with a pair of 6/6's having done 6 damage, no creatures for your opponents on the field and a decent chance to tap off up to 4 blockers they produce next turn before swinging in for a further 16, nasty!

Accordingly Shipbreaker Kraken(s) was/were my MVP(s) for the day, with Whelming Wave itself being a close second; it might well set off combos and open up attacks but the Kraken was the card that actually would win the game.

Honourable mentions go to Carnival Hellsteed although it didn't block a single point of damage or do lethal it applied so much pressure and also the Cryptborn Horror; although it rarely came down early it kept coming down as a 6/6 or bigger (14/14 once) with trample and that's a problem card.

Disappointing cards included Sphinx of Uthuun, Psychic Intrusion, Phyrexian Infiltrator, Shivan Dragon for refusing to show up for work, Slumbering Dragon for never waking up and (most surprising to me) Mercurial Chemister as whenever he hit the field I had the mana to cast anything worth discarding to his second ability and never had the spare mana to trigger his first, I really was expecting to draw two extra cards a turn but the mana had better more aggressive outlets; go figure!
