Deck Description

This is my first attempt at an EDH/Commander deck but it still needs some work. I am still trying to decide what to put for the last cards. Keep in mind that I am on a budget and all the cards that I have on my list right now I actually own or am going to get through friends or trades.

I am trying to make it a defender type deck that can drop out a bunch of interesting walls to protect me while I get out my general( Kazuul) and then drop a bunch of force attack spells. Some cards I have for flavor such as Ogre's Cleaver but it still works fine with the deck. Warmonger's Chariot is great for when I go on offense, Mindslaver is an overlooked card and gives you the option to make them force attack and do anything else on their turn. Fireheart combined with Invader parasite are a win condition on their own and the rest is pretty self explanatory.

PLEASE give me suggestions on cards that I can get for this deck that I would be able to acquire easily or for a semi-low to low price. Thanks!

I agree. Although he doesnt do much himself, when you give him the right circumstances he will make an army that will do the work for him :D

more of a retorhical question, I was refering to the ones you said yes to... Oh well, I'm gonna drop it now before someone turns it into an argument.

Oh :O. Sorry for the misunderstanding, I had no intention of turning it into an argument. Duh on my part.

I disagree with the Bolt. In my experience, it, and other burns, don't do anything spectacular in the format. The Chandra's would be great on the other hand and when M12 is released, Chandra's Phoenix will have a place in every red EDH I build along with Chandra Ablaze.

If you can get ahold of the Chandra's, go for it.

Thankyou, I dont ever plan on getting the Chandras unless one of my friends gives me one or I magically open one in a booster pack. I am looking forward to getting the new phoenix and the new electropotence for m12 though.

I assume that you are looking to as patrick swayze said in roadhouse, 'be nice until it's time to not be nice.' I am a noob when it comes to edh, but I will do some research on your build and see if I can recommend some fun and effective cards for your build, but from what I see it looks like fun.

There are a few cards that are recommendedfor these EDH decks: lightning greaves and sol ring. The sol ring is expensive and most don't have them laying around, but if you have any original Mirrodin cards you might find a lightning greaves in your uncommons.

Also, ghostquarter allows you to destroy a land and lets the owner get a basic land. a good way to remove one of the crazy lands like valakut!

I'd prefer a techtonic edge over the ghost quarter.

I think Dragon Tyrant would just sit around and make me waste my mana. He may get in a few good attacks but thats not what im looking for in this deck.

Illegal deck-Wall of Tanglecord has a green mana symbol.

i thought the same thing as sickbabyrocks, i would have just used it as an 0 6 for two.

i thought it was only illegal if the mana symbol is in the casting cost?

0

Any mana symbol not on your commander's card can't be in the deck. Also a card such as Memnarch is considered blue and can be a blue commander because of the mana symbols in his abilities. Wall of Tanglecord is considered green.

That's a pretty awesome EDH general. With this deck, I'd focus a bit more on land destruction--keeping your opponent from being able to pay the tribute cost on Kazuul, because if they can't pay the cost, then you get free 3/3 Blockers. Otherwise, I think this is an excellent deck.

Awesome name, and i agree i will try to add a few more land destruction spells(but just a little) such as boom/bust.

if you can get one for the deck, I would say to add an Inferno Titan. it's a rather large threat and can knock small fliers out of the air for you.

Insurrection is an amazing card for this deck aswell if you can find one.

i know :( i was going to try to get the titan through buying duels2012 because i wanted it in the first place and then found out that you could get a titan. I then went to the website to print off the certificate and found out only ps3 users could get inferno titans! Damn ps3... Ill try to get one through a trade i guess.

There's a few cards like War's Toll that really work well with Kazuul, that you should look into.

Grand Melee & Total War are almost must-have's, you should really look into them for this deck (luckily, they're both pretty cheap if you can purchase online)

War Cadence is pretty nifty as well, especially when you start getting one or more of these enchantments in play, they each combo off of each other in different ways. War Cadence can help get around some of the tricky stipulations these enchantments place.

And then two other ones that are just fun to play are Invasion Plans and Raging River. The latter is a bit expensive, but a lot of fun to play.

All in all, you don't need any of these, but they each give you more options in the ways you can take advantage of your commander's ability.

Also, there are a few EDH "staples" that, while a bit expensive, will be worth keeping an eye out for. Maybe not to drop a bunch of cash on them, just keep an eye out for any for trade and such, and know what they're worth. Lightning Greaves, Sol Ring, Sensei's Divining Top, and a card of two that can remove cards from an opponent's graveyard. You have two "cheap" replacements in your deck, Whispersilk Cloak for Lightning Greaves and Crystal Ball for Sensei'd Divining Top, so that's good. M12 is also bringing us Swiftfoot Boots as an uncommon (Costs 2, Equip 1, grants Hexproof and Haste).

You should still run a graveyard removal card, though. I suggest either Junktroller & Madblind Mountain (removes graveyard based effects and allows you to reintroduce spent spells into your card pool) or Tornod's Crypt. I'd actually suggest both ;)

Finally, you need just a little bit of card draw. I'm a big fan of Temple Bell, Howling Mine, and Font of Mythos, but some players don't like giving opponents cards. It doesn't bother me any, so long as I have answers for whatever problems they might try to give me.

Cheers, deck is looking great, hope my comment helps and you enjoy EDH =]

Oh! I meant to say.. I see you're playing Gamble. Absolutely love that card! I don't see it played very often anymore..

And there is one other enchantment you might want to look out for, being released with M12.

Warstorm Surge {5}{R}
Enchantment
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, it deals damage equal to its power to target creature or player.

Haha, I dont know what to say. Thanks a lot for going out of your way to provide me with so much advice :) I will try editing the deck to add some of these cards in later tonight. Lol, ya I saw the new electropotence for m12 and about pooped my self. Its a little bit more expensive but I dont have to pay the annoying cost every time one of my creatures comes into play, It just happens! Thanks again! :D

You should try to find a Mana Flare, maybe one of your friends has one, and other ramp. Caged Sun is needed, and maybe Gauntlet of Power. Also, if you have or can get either, Snow-Covered Mountains and Extraplanar Lens, they do the job. This should all help with the upkeep costs, and firebreathing for massive damage

I think I might have a Caged Sun sitting around, sounds like a good idea.
