I'm curious (as I am unfamiliar with the card) would you ever want to turn Obscuring Aether facedown? It loses its ability and doesn't have morph so you can't turn it back, right?

I don't think you would want to turn it face-down. Unless you really need that extra creature, it is a good card to get out a morph on turn 2 instead of 3.
