Deck Description

This is the fun and very reliable goblin tribal commander deck. It may not be super flashy and have the full run of utility, but mono red goblins has always proven to be fast and resilient.

Grenzo, Havoc Raiser is a very strong commander because he offers red both control and utility.

Pros of playing this deck:
-It's fast
-Easy to micro-manage
-High level of synergy

Cons of playing this deck:
-Limited to one color
-Can run out of steam early and get stuck top-decking
-Can become predictable against people who know tribal

How to Play

There is no right or wrong way to play tribal goblins. Goblins often have very high synergy within themselves and can often out tempo most decks. The real issue when playing any mono red deck is knowing when to go all in, be super greedy, or slow play and chip your opponent down. What makes Grenzo great is that he can support both modes of red simultaneously. Both of Grenzo's on-hit abilities can be abused to run over an opponent or lock them out of the game. The best way to play is to play on your second main-phase and think about your triggers. It's never really wise to try and goad a board of three or more creatures. It's best to try and lock out a single threat that could be disruptive to your board. On the flip side exiling cards is great for slowing down your opponents, but you need to be careful about the cards you choose to play. Anything you choose to cast gets kept in the game and can potentially be used against you. Also tapping out is never really smart, whether or not you have threats is irrelevant, you always want your opponent to be second guessing their plays.

Early game:
It should go without saying that this deck can thrive in the early game. A turn two Grenzo is pretty strong and is only really beat out by a turn one Lackey or a Warren
Instigator. Also early game Grenzo is good as long as you can attack, otherwise it's better to build a board and then drop him. Dolmen Gate and Goblin Recruiter are the best ways to maintain early game pressure.

Note: Be very careful when playing Goblin Recruiter, this card is a double-edged sword that does not favor the greedy. Always check your mana base before playing this card, because once you stack your deck, you run the risk of going land dry. Also never grab more than a Ringleader and four other goblins. (Let's be real, if it's not in your hand you NEED to grab a Goblin Ringleader.) All other goblins are situational, but I've never seen a play where Piledriver was a bad pick.

Mid game:
By turn five Grenzo needs to have an established board position. If you don't you run the risk of running out of steam and become easy to deal with. Outpost Siege, Chandra, and Slate of Ancestry become really useful in this phase because they keep your hand alive. Blood Moon, Ruination, and Stranglehold are key for shutting combo and control decks. Ogre Battledriver is great for presenting threat and playing politics.

Late game:
This can easily be turn six or seven for this deck. Dropping Akroma's Memorial or Coat of Arms usually allows you to run over an opponent. World at War and Aggravated Assault are also key ways to win, though they require a little more set up.

Strong two card combos:
-Kiki-Jiki + Zealous conscripts. Not original in the least, but it wins games.
-Skirk Fire Marshal + Akroma's Memorial. Excellent way to shift board presence.
-Krenko + Purphoros. If you have enough goblins on the field it becomes the fastest way to kill multiple people at once.
-Krenko + Battledriver. Once again predictable, but proven to win.

How to deal with enchantments:
-Chaos Warp...sorry that's all I got.

How to deal with planeswalkers:
-Chandra is pretty good considering she can create two disposable tokens.
