Deck Description

First blue black control deck. It's experimental at the moment, but I really need it to be competitive and good in standard tournaments.

Deck discussion for Blue Black Control v1.0

Take out Heartless summoning and the rager, add in 4 Snapcaster. take out the aether adepts and add 2 more Solemn Simulacrum. Take out Alter's reap and negate (negates are sideboard) add in skinrender. and takes out 2 other cards and 1 island and 1 swamp and add in 4 inkmoth nexus.

I can't really afford to put in 2 more Solemns or 4 Snapcasters at the moment. I kind of agree with the Altar's Reap. However, if a creature of mine was to die (or if I wanted to Vat something) I could sac it at instant speed to draw some cards. I agree with you on the negates though, but I would like to put some more counterspells in my mainboard as I would only have 4 if I took out the Negates. Also, why Inkmoth Nexus?

Inkmoth is an extra blocker (infect!) Or if you have nothing else it can win you the game.

If you're going to run black, you may as well run Liliana or Sorin; both of which are amazing control cards (Sorin more so).

Mehh, Inkmoth is too expensive for me to put in this deck, and if it dies I will have lost a land drop to put a -1/-1 counter on a creature. Liliana is too expensive and Sorin isn't too good in my opinion.

I also recommend Phyrexian Metamorphs and a card of each mana cost in case you go against Pod.

Hey Muffin man, I understand your financial concerns. I'm also trying to put together a UB control and I too cant afford 4 snaps and 4 lillys. I think Rager is a bit of a nothing card here: pretty average blocker and doesn't really help you. Also you don't have enough creatures to justify alters reap. I would maybe go for evil twin - gives lots of options and forbidden alchemy - instant speed and draws deep to hit what you need. Would also consider ghost quarter for taking out non-basic lands. I like mimic vat here. How has this deck played so far?

I haven't really played the deck at all; At the moment I am making mono black. However, if no good MBC cards are released in Dark Ascension I will make my deck UB. The Altar's Reap is OK for the deck, as I can sacrifice a Phyrexian Rager, an Aether Adept or a Solemn Simulacrum at instant speed to draw cards as well as put one of those things on the Vat. Creatures like these are very useful when they can be created at instant speed if I, for example, don't have many cards in hand, lands or if my opponent has annoying creatures that I can bounce. I will put up a decklist for my MBC soon, but it is still being built.

Yeah, you're right that rager is pretty sick with vat - extra win condition even. I'm still a little skeptical because you'd need vat out while you have rager/adept out. This is a pretty big mana burden, which may not happen till late game when you wanna be dropping titans. Anyway let me know how this plays when you test it :)
Also, here's my UB aggro/control: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=246126
Please take a look and tell me what you think.
