Thrull Parasite, instead of Denizen? I like the option to remove a counter from something, and also gaining life for casting spells.

I don't think black cat is standard right now otherwise I would most certainly use it. If standard isn't your cup of tea then there are far better cards suited towards this play style in modern or even legacy.
