Deck Description

Sometimes the hedges get out of hand, sometimes the lawn needs to be mowed, and sometimes the bodies need to dug up. Sigh yard work, am I right?

Meren is one of my favorite Commanders, she's in a color combination I enjoy but rarely play, and she's all about the graveyard, and utilizing that pile of dead cards is always something that makes me happy.

Earn the experience, gather a team, and conquer the world.

Deck discussion for Meren EDH: Yard Work

I would greatly reccomend cheap guys that can sac themselves to grab lands, Dawn treader elk & dilligent farmhand are going to be your best friends

My decks still heavily under construction which is what brought me here but there's still plenty of awesome suggestions there that I'm not seeing here if you'd like to give a skim through

Hi there, thanks for the advice and for sharing your deck. My thinking is that having a few land fetch creatures is usually enough, the Sakura Tribe Elder is by far my favorite for building up the mana base, that guy is like the energizer bunny, just keeps going and going and going. While having self sacrificers for effects is a good choice for Meren, my own style tends towards sacrificing creatures to other cards for other effects.

The deck you shared has a lot of good ideas in it, especially looking at all of the creatures you found that work well with Meren's ability. I would be concerned with the lack of instants and sorceries though. My Meren build is potentially be a little creature light right now, but it is still in flux, and I'll take your advice into consideration as I make changes.

The creature heavyness is mostly due to the fact I'm still strongly considering running lurking predators so that pretty much every time an opponent plays any spell I get to put a creature from the top of my library directly into play

So if I'm facing 3 opponents legs say they play 1 spell a turn that's 3 free creatures a turn then there's my turn

If most of your creatures do something on etb or can instantly sac themselves then it can go something like this
"Oh u played a guy? Well guess what now I get to put down this guy for free that kills your guy when it enters the battlefield, will you do anything else? No? OK my turn to further make you hate yourself"

Also with creatures that can destroy stuff the can be reused with Meren, where as something like maelstrom pulse is like OK I blow up 1 thing & now its a useless card to me for the rest of the game

Yes sakura tribe is the best land grabber but chances you'll get it turn 2 everygame are pretty close, best to run at least 5 copies of any cards as close to it as possible

& greenseaker is so good because any big mana cost guys you draw early game that you can't play at the moment? Pitch them & save them for later, grab land & get enough so you can play the big guy

One card that I'd nearly consider an absolute staple as well is Genesis, being able to tutor it into the grave with things like buried alive & then the rest of the game u can return anything to your hand for 3 is crazy
