Deck Description

This is my version of a caw-go deck. I use the squadron hawks to get card advantage in early, then use stronger cards to support the hawks. there is some equipment in the deck, but not much. I don't have any of the swords, and I'm not looking to pick them up, so please don't suggest them. I would like to take this deck to a local Friday Night Magic in my area, but that's down the road a bit. any help or sugestion is apreciated, and don't worry about hurting my feelings.

Deck discussion for Caw-Go Please Help

Okay first of all your deck needs more strong late-game cards like Titans or Consecrated Sphinx. Just squadron Hawks alone won't get the job done, and your singleton Sun titan is too hard to draw. Aside from that you don't have any strong equipments in there, so you probably won't get much out of the hawks alone. I'd try adding in Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. She pumps up all the hawks and provides a 4/7 body with vigilance. Also helps a lot in matches against other weenie-decks.

Secondly, I'd completely remove the Porcelain Legionaire and Aether Adept. Both of 'em don't really do anything good in your deck. I'd replace the Aether adept by 4 copies of Into the Roil, and take out the legionaire to add in 2 more preordains and 2 timely reinforcements main-deck. Mono-red has a really strong meta-game position right now thanks to Grim lavamancer and such, and a single lavamancer can get u screwed if your hawks don't get their toughness pumped. Therefore you need a way to generate a bunch of weenies with little mana, and Timely Reinforcements is the perfect card for that job.

3rd: I'd add 4 of Seachrome coast, 4 of Glacial Fortress and 4 of Celestial Colonnade. They will prove to work better than just the plains and islands you have now. Also try and put in Tectonic Edge against Valakut decks.

4th: you need a better equipment that has more impact on the game than viridain claw. The claw just do enough for you. You want to do something with an effect that's hard to get in but rewards you for doing so. the best examples are the swords. Thanks to the easy evasion of the hawks, these birds are the best creature for a sword to hang on...

That's about it I guess. The deck really needs something to get the most out of the hawks, and the viridian claw and sun titan are not the best the overpowered bird is going to get. The really best card to hang on it is Sword of Feast and Famine, but as you explain you don't wanna play it, I don't think this deck would do well at a FNM...

P.S: Put in 2 more jaces instead of arrest. Arrest won't help you out if there's a strong creature on the field like Consecrated sphinx, which does not have an activated ability and will still get you to lose the game if left unhandled... another thing i'd do is take out the journey and replace it with more copies of oblivion ring...

Please comment on my decks...

Would Sword of Vengence be a plausible replacement for other swords? The main problem that I have with the swords is that they are expensive and rare. If i could find a plausible replacement, that would be great, which is why I'm trying to find something else that works with the hawks.

No, and if you are planning to take the deck to a FNM, then you will need the other swords.

Which of the swords is better? I know that Sword of Feast and Famine is all the rage, but I kinda like the bonus creatures from sword of body and mind. is it personal preference, or is it just based off of getting all of your lands back?

Okay, first of all I have to tell you that the Sword of Feast and Famine does something far greater than the Sword of Body and Mind. Sword of Feast and Famine lets your opponent discard a card, and it untaps all your lands, which means you can actually play an extra turn except for attacking... Aside from those abilities, it gives the creature it equips protection from green, which is not that great, but mainly protection from black, which completely denies any spot removal black has. The only answer that remains in black is either Black Sun's Zenith, which comes too late to be effective against a hawk with a sword, or Life's Finale/Consume the Meek. As the most significant 2 can come only as early as turn 5, and you can have hit an opponent with a hawk with a sword equipped on turn 4, you really put your opponent in a nasty position. The sword of body and mind provides additional creatures, but there is still only 1 you need to carry your sword, and the first hit should be the most significant. If you feel the deck lacks enough creatures, I'd suggest mainboarding Timely Reinforcements. This card is absurd. It's capable of eating away almost any standard red reck all by itself. This is especially effective if your opponent started with a goblin guide or grim lavamancer...

Conclusion: You really need the sword of feast and famine, and you really need Timely Reinforcements, both in this deck...
