Deck Description

A Pauper deck featuring the powerful Atog!

How to Play

This deck is designed to play Atog and kill your opponents with it! Most of these artifacts have double-utility: your artifact lands obviously produce mana, Puzzleknot brings along a friend, Myr Sire leaves behind a friend, Workshop Assistant retrieves a friend, and Salvage Slasher is an alternative finisher. The basic idea, though, is to play Atog, attack, be unblocked, and you can sacrifice 5 artifacts to him and then fling him, killing your opponent. Shred Memory searches up Atog, or Salvage Slasher if you're in the late game. The sideboard is built to make the deck more aggressive (like Ornithopter and Phyrexian Walker) or more midrange (Ichor Wellspring and Welding Jar).

Deck discussion for Paupertog

Consider the following: Welding Sparks, Scrapyard Salvo, Myr Servitor, Myr Moonvessel and Cathodion.

Interesting options. Do you have any recommendation on what to take out? To me, Myr Moonvessel and Cathodion don't really give that much advantage, as most artifacts are sacrificed during combat.

In that case, take out the Grunts and put in the Myr Servitors. You'll be able to get them back for free next turn if you keep one of them alive.

Then maybe take out two signets for two Salvos, that way you'd have more options if your opponent happens to be playing an artifact hate deck.

Definitely add servo schematic. I'd also cut the evolving wilds (and terranorphic expanses) for more basics.

Servo Schematic would be great, but it's uncommon, unfortunately. Pauper is a format where you can only use common cards.

This deck is worse for not playing Disciple of the Vault. It's a well-known companion to Atog-Fling and allows for wins without needing to sacrifice as many artifacts. Also, because most opponents will have multiple creatures by turn 4, most decks like this run blue for Distortion Strike or Artful Dodge, so Atog will get through, and use Seat of the Synod as another artifact. With blue, it stands to reason that you would also add Thoughtcast, and then Springleaf Drum for color fixing, and you have a pretty standard Grixis Atog Affinity deck. I don't know if you were trying to be original with this and shun blue for more utility spells, but Disciple of the Vault is a must. :)

Also, this kind of deck is certainly high-risk, high-reward, as you are sacrificing most of your permanents to try to kill your opponent. Your removal is really only Galvanic Blast, of which you can't even count on drawing 1 of in a game (as you don't run card draw/cantrips). And, Pauper has a high number of flash creatures, even if most aren't used competitively, and there's nothing worse than sacrificing your entire manabase and swinging with an Atog onto an empty board only to have in chump blocked. If you really want to be successful with this, you need more removal (Terminate is logical if you want to stay Rakdos) or blue for evasion.

Another thing, Myr Servitor is a nombo in a dedicated Atog-Fling deck, as it can only return one of its kind to play every upkeep. That's not to mention that you need two of them, which is unlikely, considering that you can't even tutor them with Shred Memory (if for some reason you have no better targets). (Despite this, if you run Distortion Strike, you wan swing in after sacrificing both Myr for the last few points of damage.) That's a logical cut for Disciple of the Vault. Other logical cuts are Rakdos Signet (prob. for Springleaf Drum), and if you want to add blue, 4 lands (you can easily win with three lands out, esp. if they are artifact lands), Krark-Clan Grunt (since you have 4x Shred Memory for Atog), and then you can mess around with numbers of Puzzleknots, Thoughtcasts and Strikes/Dodges. I'm not pushing you toward blue, I've just found that the deck is a lot more consistent with the added depth.

Nice idea, though. +1

I steered clear of blue because it's tough to have pauper three-color mana fixing. I do like your ideas, though, but it seems like a pretty big overhaul that would call for like a whole new list. Sorry

@Awesome, check the wording of Myr Servitor again. It says: "all cards named Myr Servitor", so essentially he'd bring back all three of them in play if he keeps one alive.

Why do you have the white artifact land? The only card in here that requires white mana also requires sacrificing itself, so it won't net you any artifacts for atog

Right, I'm using it just for the virtue that it's an artifact land, kind of like Darksteel Citadel.
