@Dag; Yes, Dredge. Dredge should be discussed a lot more. Good to see you're still here Dag!

@Ethan; Lotus Cobra is one of those things that I have to admit the standard kids caught onto a lot faster than most Legacy players did. For a while I tried it in a janky BG control deck, based off of the old Dirt control decks, and it did such insane things for it. I think the only reason I stopped working on it and Jericho was the ban on Mental Misstep :/
I'd have to say that my favourite card ever printed is a tie between Doomsday, Pox, and after my stint in Vintage Hermit Druid has earned a spot.

It's just so good! I can't see why you wouldn't want a 2/1 body and turn 3 jtms... ;) or a t3 hardcast batterskull with fow back up... why don't people do this?

Because most would rather pay two mana for Bob, goyf, or Hymn to Tourach. I find myself wanting to play ALL of them :D

When I first posted on this, it wasn't a deck yet, but now that it is, I can comment on it. CAN I GET A HUZZAH?!

There's something about Dirt aggro-control that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It's best shown in the sexy pairing of Thoughtseize, Pernicious Deed, and Abrupt Decay. Those three together is basically saying "Heh, no." =P

Bojuka Bog is the one thing that I'm a little iffy about. I'm just not 100% sure you'd need it =/

Huzzah!

It's not as versatile as Vindicate, but I can't say I'm dissatisfied with Abrupt Decay. With Thoughtseize on turn one, it on turn two, and Deed on three(has actually happened a few oddball games) I can't help but laugh at swarm decks XD

Bojuka Bog was handy once upon a time, but nowadays I'm inclined to agree.

I think it's the "can't be countered" clause that makes it so appealing to me. Being able to take out Goyf, Teeg, Bob, KotR, SDT, Jitte, etc. while the opponent can do nothing but watch?! Abrupt Decay's flavor text should be changed to "Deal with it!"

Not SDT completely.

Well, the Top is one of the trolliest cards in the game, but while it could dodge it I suppose, it would still be an irritation. Most decks that run the Top are some variant of Tempo (or at least use some aspects of Tempo). By forcing them to draw with the Top when they're not 100% ready for it, you shift the tempo away from them...and that can be game changing.

Still, the point remains, it's an unstoppable answer to an insane list of Legacy staples. Seriously, go through your mental list of Legacy staples and you'll start to realize how many AD hits.

If it can't be countered it's always dangerous in Legacy. I felt that mentioning that would be beating a dead zoo deck, I mean horse. Sorry to any zoo players :P

I've been shutting out some Counter|Top designs thanks to Abrupt Decay, it's quite the troll card. I've been trying to find ways to slip it into everything, it's quite simply that amazing.
Changing tempo is one of the most powerful plays in Legacy to me, the sudden forced staccato of my opponents tempo is the method my MBC decks take, and just by keeping things a few bars ahead you can out do almost anything. The crescendo of a tempo deck is always fascinating.

abrupt decay is such a hoser in legacy. that card was driving me crazy when i was trying to play tempo. it pretty much, single handily, shuts down tempo strategies.

nice looking deck though. no ooze?

Abrupt Decay and I have already begun a sort of love/hate relationship for those reasons. It ruins tempo, which is great, but the problem is that it ruins the tempo decks I play too.

I completely forgot about Scavenging Ooze, I'm still trying to break off a bit of rust. I'm glad you like the deck AlleywayJack, Dirt is a wedge I think should definitely be played more :)

for sure. i mean come on. hymn, thoughtseize, decay, deed, green sun package, knight package. this deck plays all the goodies ^_^ maybe throw in a singleton horizon canopy? for when you wanna draw that extra card, or just pump knight.

i was playing a dreadstalker tempo build for a while. and i found a solution to abrupt decay for that build. its called vision charm. it phases out dreadnought at instant speed, saving him from decay without countering it. ^_^ heres the link if you wanna check it out:

Horizon Canopy is one of those cards that I probably should be playing, but usually wind up going against it. Previously with Bojuka Bog taking the slot in the main, but right now I'm seeing so much Showand Tell, and Reanimator decks that I'm packing two copies of Karakas. Chains of Mephistopheles is one of the more techy answers I've ever used, but against Omniscience, Storm, and Reanimator it's as bad as Abrupt Decay is for everybody else @_@

Dread|Stalker is a great tempo deck, and Vision Charm is an interesting way of dealing with Abrupt Decay, especially since phasing doesn't trigger ETB effects. I think I'd just go with an instant speed hexproof, like Mizzium Skin though.

actually have never seen mizzium skin. decent sideboard card at least. although the bug decks that play abrupt decay also play innocent blood, liliana, and other edict effects. phasing protects from all that sheiit too. ^_^

True, and sometimes I get too carried away with the decks I see, so I think Ghastly Demise in place of Innocent Blood. Edict effects and Liliana are very much present though. I was more thinking in the line of being forced into playing Vision Charm at a bad time, and Mizzium Skin was the option that sprang to mind.

I'd just been trying to tidy some other affairs before getting back to dealing with MtG, and I'm glad to say that most of them have been dealt with. I'm trying to avoid another lapse in one of my favourite hobbies, but voting, and the release of Halo 4 offered a temporary setback :(

But of course Dag, but sadly right now I don't have a copy of Halo 4 T_T I was renting it from a local place, I'm planning on getting it around December as the Legendary/limited edition. Gamertag is "BH Psychosis" :D

Oh man, that campaign was amazing, and while it's not quite the same, I seriously suggest doing the Spartan Ops. The first one is kind of boring, but the fourth one is more fun on Legendary than most of the campaign!
I'm only getting the Limited edition because my sister reserved it for me for Christmas, if I buy a game, I almost exclusively buy the cheapest version.

I might be getting on my 360 tonight, but I can't get on Halo 4. I had to return it or face late fees sadly.

I'm useless for standard, but I commented what I could manage. I'm not even really sure what's in standard right now, I think eternal formats have broken me.

Why not Deathrite SB or even MB?

Mostly because I already have access to Scavenging Ooze, but I've seen a few situations that it could come in handy as a singleton in the SB as a GSZ target. Also I didn't even finish looking at the cards from RtR when I made this, I just flipped at the sight of Abrupt Decay.
