Deck Description

First Deck ever (posted)!

Mono-red devotion/aggro gives you... MonoR DevAggro (say like you're french, or italian or something.)

Basically pump in fast like any aggro. But it weighs toward devotion factors. At the perfect hand (which never happens, but still bits of it happen consistently enough) you can drop satyr hoplite turn 1, turn two throw out all four (or as many as you have) BTE and use the last bit of mana to enchant the satyr with thunderous might, then swing turn two for 12.... not bad, right? I think 6 is a more consistent bet, but still - a lot of decks (especially if you're on the play) won't have an answer for a hit that hard and that early.

Then turn 3 you slap down your nykthos, pump the rest of your mana into whatever (boros, awaken ancient, etc) to prep for fanatic, or just drop fanatic then and there. also, nykthos gives amazing strength to cards like twinflame and harness by force... especially when turn 3 you dropped your 7/7 giant, and then turn 4 you can twinflame hopefully two or three times with your devotion, and be attacking with 3 7/7s. then if you have legion loyalist out there to boot, that's pretty much game.

I have run into being able to play close to awesome (bunch of BTE and enchanting hoplite with TM) but run into the crappy situation of having a 8/2 or whatever being blocked and wiped by a 2/1. There is a little bit of burn (more in the side) but also because of this problem I found a place for my favorite card (yes, favorite - combo of card itself, its art, and most definitely - the flavor text: 'it is not in me to tread lightly.' boom! [it had to be my deck's featured card]) seismic stomp! When I use to play that card, I'd save it for the game winning lethal swing (and so often miss a lot of good chances and actually lose) but i realized with my heavy weight in this deck on thunderous might, having seismic stomp to pump one creature past for 10 damage by turn three (or four if things aren't going as well for you - of whatever).

After all, aggro is hit hard, hit fast, and hold on for dear life (for the opponent).

I know it's a risk having a few less creatures in an aggro and depending on enchantments, but i think it still comes out of the gate fast enough in test plays (and real matches) that most times your opponent will be pretty speechless. I played a (less-revised) version at a tourney and the deck did great even then (though I didn't) and plan to try this updated version in the next week.

The sideboard allows you to (hopefully) deal with board-wipe and life-gain mainly (boros charm and skullcrack), plus some other stuff for fun in there (courser is an enchantment creature... :)).

I'm torn on fall of the hammer and pit fight, because it gives you another creature clear method when hitting with your 12/2. also, if they have a big silly guy go monstrous or a deso-demon, throw boros in the pit and slam the damage back at the player. OR, even better (which i really wish to do, but i don't think it's consistent enough to depend on - though high risk, high reward) is to combo boros + Thunderous might (on any attacking creature) + fall of the hammer (or pit fight). declare your attacker, ramp up to 14/3 or wherever you are, fall of the hammer that guy against boros, and then smack your opponent's head clean around with a 14 hit redirection (sacking boros, of course - but anyone sacks boros for 14!) you see what i'm saying. that's why, even just for kicks, i sort of want a spot for a FotH or PF in my side, or even my main... just one, to go off and be forever remembered...

I especially just feel very strongly about the performance of the aggro + devotion, giving you a few different options.

Still honing in on exact numbers or a card sub here and there, so comments thoughts appreciated! Thanks :)
