Deck Description

This is a Merfolk deck that is built for tournaments and is all about Islandwalking. The deck beats all of my friends and is fairly cheap to make (other than the 2 Jaces).

Deck discussion for Merfolk of DOOM

Cool standard merfolk deck :) I personally like mine better, but mine isn't standard, it was legacy, and now I' changing it to extended

Yours does have its ups, I hate making standard decks, there are always really cool cards that I am not allowed to use, it is rather annoying...

Why Celestial Mantle?

Aura Finesse to equip it without paying its huge mana cost, and it pumps up any Merfolk by 3/3, and when they are also unblockable because of the Islandwalking, every time I attack with it and do damage my life total doubles. This has actually happened...
TURN 1: Island, Merfolk Spy
TURN 2: Island, Spreading Seas
TURN 3: Island, Aura Finesse, Celestial Mantle, attack for 4 and my life total becomes 40!
It is a good way to start out a game.

Doesn't aura finesse only target auras you control – meaning auras that are already on the battlefield as opposed to pulling auras out of your hand?

Are you sure? Thats not what I was told about how it was used... if so, that sucks alot!

Yea, you don't control something until it's on the battlefield. Imagine how broken it would be to cast an aura of any mana cost or color from your hand with a single Aura Finesse for one blue mana.

This Merfolk deck is very fun to play, and I must say that for any properly built Merfolk deck. There is nothing more fun than Islandwalking and your opponent cant do nothing about it. People really underestimate Merfolk, sure there small and weak, but Islandwalk also make them very dangerous. And paired with Equipment or Auras make them actually scary. And thanks for the comment!

You probably know but Merfolk equipped with the Sword of Body and Mind cant be made unblockable by Merfolk Sovereign. Other than that comment, HAPPY HUNTING. ;)
