Deck Description

I was playing casual rules magic with my buddies the other day at the local card shop, when some guy asked politely if he could sit in on our next game, making it 2v2. Of course I said yes, because, I'm always on the lookout for great new deck ideas. He asked if he could use his EDH deck while playing, and since most of our casual decks are competely broken, I figured, why not, its not like it can do much harm to me. When he ended up whooping my @$$ I was hooked. It wasn't even that great of a deck, but the way it functioned and the rules of EDH grabbed me and I never looked back. Only a couple of issues, the first and most important, I CAN'T CHOOSE A CREATURE FOR MY GENERAL!! please help me in deciding which of these guys should be in the finals for whom it shall be, and if you want, say why. The second issue, which will be adressed later, is making the deck itself, because I dont really have a great knowledge of how to make an EDH deck, just how they are played and the rules and whatnot.

*Thanks, everyone, for making this a public voting deck :) getting the best possible deck out of my first edh for sure*

*look over all cards when you can, make sure I don't accidentally have duplicates anywhere**

*Shout-out goes to dagbaker, who consistently commented and helped me out a lot* thanks!

Alright, so the point of the deck is to get out lands quick, counter enemy stuff i dont like, destroy the stuff i cant counter, and dig deep into the deck for goodies. Oh ya, and get vorosh out asap. Any suggestions?

I'd say Teysa or Numot. Remember the general has to be a legend.

personaly i say numot. there r a lot of good cards u can use to just fuel his ability. not to mention ppl really hate land destruction cards. being part blue u have draw and even counter cards at ur disposal. being part white u have remove from game, prison like cards and life gain if need be. just somethings to consider.

Jenara, or Rafiq of the Many (same colors) have good edh colors.

It's funny that you mention that because one of the other reasons I'm making this EDH deck is because for my bant/ exalted deck, which Rafiq is necessary for, my local card shop charges 50 bucks per pop, which I find ridiculous for playing casually with my buddies.

Teysa is amazing, and one of my favorite generals I use. Teneb and Numot are terrible, take it from me. Vorosh can be pretty crazy if you protect him well. Because of Commander Damage, Vorosh's ability makes him dangerous =]

Rafiq is a pretty cool general too, but yeah, no reason you should pay 50 bucks for one.

I've seen some crazy Jenara decks too...so she's a nice choice =]

Teysa is definitely the best general among this list, imo. White and black is a strong color combination with a lot of removal to begin with, and then there's Teysa.. I had never considered Vorosh as a commander, though, but I can see how good he can be. Another great color combination as well.

Jenara definitely offers the most for you. Especially being a three drop.

Some people build the deck, then have to choose their general, so remember that you don't need build around the general.

In my experience, Niv is a good combo kill general, but doesn't do diddly otherwise, with his small body. And everyone knows what you're doing when you put him down. Teysa is in fact amazing, but I prefer GBW for token decks, as I've got a bit of love for Doubling season and parallel lives. Teneb isn't bad, and combos off really well with graveyard play, but again, better generals exist. I LOVE rafiq decks, but if rafiq gets blown off the board once or twice, the deck loses right out the gate. Mimeoplasm is one of my favorites, despite it not being on your list. Gotta love his interactions with certain giant cards.

Also, My current EDH deck? Rikku. Holy god, Rikku. RUG has so many infinite combos, and so many X cost spells. You have to respect a deck that casts rikku, drops palinchron, and then creates infinite mana AND infinite palinchrons. Then copies a blue suns or devils play or whatever to kill the table. His early game lacks a bit, but my deck plays nothing but A) combo creatures B)copy spells, C) time spells, D) counters, and E) X cost spells. tons of tokens, tons of spells. Spend your early game playing copy spells on your opponents ramp cards, playing your own ramp cards, or countering early game plays with forbid, buying it back due to draw spells, and charmbreaker devils. meanwhile, you just bide your time until it's time to strike!

Yes, but don't you have to buy a commander pack to get either Riku or Mimoplasm? I don't know if I really want to buy a whole pack for one guy

I've seen rafiq decks epic pwn without ever even playing rafiq. it depends on the deck build. keep in mind you have 99 cards to work with, and if your like me and run a 2-1 ratio with land you have 66 cards to use for kill and support.running low cast cost with everything having exhalted rafiq kind of gets redundant. especially if you run a finest hour and manage to get it early. its more or less game there without rafiq.

That totally just convinced me to put her back in the race, even if my card shop doesn't have her in stock.. :)

Does that combo with darkest hour work? I thought all creatures become only black, so Teysa's ability to sac white creatures won't work because there aren't any white creatures on the field (Darkest Hour makes all creatures lose their other colors and become black, right?). It would be sweet if i'm wrong though.

Sadly you are correct that it disables the whole exile trick, but if you have some requirements for saccing something it makes things go insane. Viscera Seer is epic with it.

Final four. Now it gets kinda tricky. In my opinion, the current order is 1: Numot 2: Vorosh and tie for third is Jenra and Teysa...they both deserve at least a bronze metal :p

I can definitely see a counter theme for a Vorosh EDH. I was considering making one, actually, since I have Kraj and Vorosh already.

If you decide for the counter theme, Kraj almost seems like a given, though he's a bit colored-mana heavy. Grafting could help immensely, as well as Fungal Behemoth (XGG Suspend for 6+ love you long, long time). Shielding Plax is also a great card for Vorosh to get some protection, or its cousin, Canopy Cover (personally, I'm biased towards Plax because I loved Ravnica and I love card advantage).

well, add distortion strike right off the bat. an easy 20 damage from the commander over the 2 turns, and you re left with an 18/18 flyer. fun :D
possibly some land ramp because... well... you have green, you may as well use it
use some funny control stuff from blue to mess with your opponent, I actually have an EDH deck based off of that (grand arbiter Augustin as my commander) , the control is both fun and worth it for the lulz:3

So Vorosh can't kill you in two swings >_>

But really, those are they rules. I think the Elder Dragons (like Nicol Bolas) were all 7/7, so that may be part of the reason.

If someone is dealt a total of 21 damage from someone's General, then that player loses. It sounds easy, but it really isn't...Vorosh is amazing in that regard because his ability is practically MADE for dishing out commander damage!

something just hit me: gilder barin, to double vorosh's counters, and fists of ironwood, because giving an enlarged vorosh trample is pretty much when your oppenent needs to either respond or pick up his cards.
birds of paradise is a given for any green commander deck with 3+ colors. possibly the lieges (creakwood, murkfiend, and glen elandra), murkfiend being my personal favorite. and sol ring, because every commander deck has sol ring >.>
signets are some good mana variation, and a great way to start off a game
lightning greaves/swiftfoot boots will ward off removal from vorosh, and ultimately can win you the game by giving you a giant, invulnerable, flying monstrosity.
just some suggestions.

0

Flying monstrosity indeed. I espically like the lieges, as low cost boosters for every color in the deck. thanks for the input ftw. no literally, ftw :p

<_<

This inspires me to make my 10th EDH deck a Vorosh deck, not gonna lie. It's been a while since I've made an EDH deck where the focus is my general curb-stomping the enemy =P

0
Posted 26 October 2011 at 03:40

I've only ever actually built one EDH deck, but I love to design them since you can plan cards around your commander, especially with commanders like vorosh that can, as said above, curb-stomp the enemy.

also@ surewhynot: can you list out the commanders that you have used? I like to hear about different EDH strategies.

and while I'm at it, I'll suggest something else: the seers parables and their enchantments: Ghastlord would be great for emptying the enemy's hand of threats, and helm would give the same ability to vorosh, or anything really. gift of the deity on vorosh would allow you to clear out most of the opposition, causing ridiculous pressure on the opponent. if there is one thing I love, it is making the enemy panic >=D

in EDH deck building can be tough if your new, but once you play it for a while, new and interesting ideas will come to mind. for example, I am running 9 EDH decks right now. i have 5 mono colored, one for each of the preators, a 5 colored dragon deck using Scion, the Ur Dragon. a "wrath" deck using Child of alara for a general(also 5 colors), and an Angel deck using Kaalia of the Vast.

those decks i built based on the general. my 9th deck is a deck that the general was picked to suit the deck. its a 5 colored deck using progenitus as a general, but in all honesty progenitus being played is a last resort win con. the point of the deck is to get Uril the mist stalker (who i used as a general before but wanted access to black and blue) and then put as many enchantment - aura's on him as i can. there are 30 in the deck specificly for him. it also runs kor spiritdancers, which are uril without hexproof.

so really it all depends on what you want to do. if you want a fast deck, uril or scion are good speed generals (when i used uril as a general he won a few games on turn 6) and if you want fun decks well just look up legendary creatures and see what suits your needs.

Whispersilk Cloak on Vorosh. Easy win. As soon as he enters, Greaves him & Cloak him. 3 turns later, 1 opponent is dead, followed by another one every turn. You can still equip the cloak while greaves is on him because shroud doesn't apply to the equip ability.

Also, Trinket Mage? Free sol ring tutor? I think so. and with the high cost artifacts, you can splash treasure mage in as well.
