How to Play

I play this deck at standard events. It is not too strong but very consistent and fun to play.

GENERAL TIPS: Give Chandra love she deserves (which is all of it). Meaning protect her with all your might, dont rush attack when retaliation will kill Chandra. She is worth it. One of the loveliest planeswalkers and 50:50 creature:noncreature spell deck is a perfect place for her. Always reconsider if you should drop your hasty guys attacking right away. Sometimes they can protect you from more damage than they can do and this is not exactly aggro deck. BUT if you leave them to block, they may just die to opponents removal and end up doing even less that a few points of damage. So the choice is hard and never (well, at last without Duress never :-) ) obvious. Consider how many cards your opponent has in hand and how many removals he has already played.

AGAINST AGGRO: Try to control more, dont try to race. Your creatures are awesome blockers: Zealot has First Strike; Reckoner can redirect damage to kill another creature; Phoenix can die and return later; and Dragon is a beast :-) with protection from white, which may come handy

AGAINST CONROL: Do race. :-) Sideboard Mindsparker and Burning Earth (depends on opponent but you got the idea). Focus most of your hasty guys and other hate on planeswalkers if your opponent has them. Dont forget that Outrages 2 can be redirected to planeswalker. Dissipate and Pillar of Flame are rotating out, so your Phoenix should be infinite - he is essential to keep card advantage. Stormbreath Dragon should be awesome with prot-white, his monstrosity isnt that hard to get with 25 lands and it punishes control gloriously. Also your sideboard - Mindsparker and Burning Earth - should do their job. Try to resolve them more than anything else (play into tapped opponent if possible so they cant counter)

Deck discussion for R Big Red: RTR & THS

hey zipec, the decks looking good, but against aggro isn't it foolhardy to not race? Chandra is good, but it seems like against very aggressive decks it would matter very little if you get to use her 0 turn 5 and 6 if they are dropping your life (or burning her) super fast. having pyromancer actually in the deck (i noticed you mentioned him in another version of this) would be great to stifle them long enough to get great use out of chandra. Against everything else the deck looks really strong. the dragon is great against G/W life gain, your sideboard covers you from most control and other hinderances. I like it. And if you want to see my slightly different version of the red deck here it is: http://www.mtgvault.com/somesoggytacos/decks/do-theros-red-decks-win/
